From J.K. Rowling, a warm, fast-paced, funny fairy tale of a fearsome monster, thrilling adventure, and hope against all odds.Once upon a time there was a tiny kingdom called Cornucopia, as rich in happiness as it was in gold, and famous for its food. From the delicate cream cheeses of Kurdsburg to the Hopes-of-Heaven pastries of Chouxville, each was so delicious that people wept with joy as they ate them. But even in this happy kingdom, a monster lurks. Legend tells of a fearsome creature living far to the north in the Marshlands... the Ickabog. Some say it breathes fire, spits poison, and roars through the mist as it carries off wayward sheep and children alike. Some say it's just a myth... And when that myth takes on a life of its own, casting a shadow over the kingdom, two children - best friends Bert and Daisy - embark on a great adventure to untangle the truth and find out where the real monster lies, bringing hope and happiness to Cornucopia once more. Featuring full color illustrations by children from across the United States and Canada, this original fairy tale from one of the world's most celebrated storytellers will captivate readers of all ages.

Bailedbailed

Moving has caused me to make some decisions about what books i can keep and move. Officially bailing on this one. Too dark, political, and graphic for me to want to share with my son.

Avanders I think you‘ve made a good decision 😘 4y
Mommamanzi Ok, @Avanders and @BethM just getting around to this one. I don‘t love it but don‘t hate it either. Am I just too light hearted/unaware … I don‘t get political. I feel it‘s more a very drawn out version of a story like The Emperor‘s New Clothes. 😬 3y
BethM @Mommamanzi I‘ve pretty much blocked it out 😂 I remember there being a lot of political scheming though? Maybe? Lol. And trust me light hearted/unaware is good! We need more ppl like that in the world to balance us out :) happy Mother‘s Day ladies! @Avanders 3y

Avanders Aw man, I can barely remember! 🫢 I also remember thinking it was a slow, drawn out fairy tale .. hmm 🤔 I didn‘t bail on it, and it looks like I have it 2.5 or 3 stars on Goodreads. So maybe, for me, just overall meh and disappointing? 🤷🏽‍♀️ I do hope you enjoy it more though 😘😘 @Mommamanzi 3y
Mommamanzi @Avanders and @BethM ok I got a lot of political scheming. I thought you meant current day and I was like Omg I‘m an idiot (still may be, who knows haha). Did y‘all have a good Mother‘s Day? It was Penelope‘s birthday. We got sushi and chilled. Good quiet day. The 22nd we are going to meet rescued elephants! 3y
BethM @Mommamanzi that sounds like fun! Wes and I got to chill all day which was nice. But the hubs “celebrated” by handing me ice cream and saying I was a good mom. Men 🤦‍♀️ 3y

Booooks! 📚📚 Several purchases.

I love the Penguin Horror (curated by Guillermo del Toro) & Penguin Galaxy (curated by Neil Gaiman) & just started collecting the slightly smaller Penguin Clothbound Classics (they‘re so nice & come with a built-in bookmark).

The other books came from Amazon boxes & Book Outlet.

15 books ... the last 6 weeks. I buy too many books. I‘m disappointed in my lack of discipline. Books, a double-edged sword ... 😫🥰

Pickpick

It's really good!! 16 and I loved it. It's definitely a children's novel but I think everyone can learn the message from it! Children would love it!! It has a great story about kindness, helping, and speaking the truth. Definitely read it!

So, I think it‘s cool what Rowling did w the illustrations in this book.... but I would have liked some prof‘l ones, *too*. This girl, however, is super talented!! She‘s only 12! The book is fine — it‘s a fairy tale, in tone & scope. Maybe a little longer. 😉

This pic of a sunset from the other day in *no* way did it justice. I even went outside barefoot to try to capture it!😍

And bugs has been *into* hot bathtimes during this cold winter!

BethM He‘s so big! And the sunset is very pretty. 4y
