Declan Kensington isnt really in the mood for Christmas. His latest mystery book sales are tanking, his finances are in a dismal state, and his spirits are anything but festive. Perhaps spending the holidays alone at his family lakeside cabin in the small village of Maplewood, Vermont, will provide him much-needed peace and quiet. Then he might finally get to work on a new book and (hopefully) jumpstart his stalling writing career. When he starts receiving anonymous letters threatening him to leave, Declan realizes his solitary writers retreat isnt at all what he bargained for. And if the threats arent enough, a killer strikes, casting Declan in the role of the most likely suspect. Now its up to him and the handsome local Public Safety Commissioner Curtis Monroe to find out the truth before Declan spends Christmas (and the rest of his life) in jail. But as dead bodies pile up and dark secrets are revealed beneath Maplewoods picture-perfect facade, Declans heart may yet be in more danger than his life

To get back into his writing groove, Declan returns to his family‘s cabin for peace and quiet. What he gets is murder, small town politics, and romance.

A second read through of this #DiverseCozy for me! Still charming, although the flatness of the characters & shallowness of the romance was more frustrating. But I also appreciated the scene setting more, & I had forgotten the murderer, so I had fun with the multiple red herrings! 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑

Kenyazero Sounds like an interesting read! 1y

Finished Dec‘s #diversecozy read right before heading out the door for trivia night tonight.

There were some mistakes that should‘ve been caught by an editor that drove me a little batty, but I enjoyed this more than I didn‘t. The town was charming, it wasn‘t too romance-y for me (a genre I‘ve never been able to enjoy), and the mystery wasn‘t easily solvable. Very easy to read, especially for the holidays, but will probably be forgotten soon

mhillis I wanted to read this one but couldn‘t get the hold in time! Enjoy trivia!! 1y
sarahbellum @mhillis that‘s always a bummer! It‘d be fun to read any time during the winter 1y

December‘s #diversecozy buddy read is In the Winter Woods: a little M/M Christmas romance mystery for you! Available on Hoopla for easy access.

Friends, how are we feeling about continuing #diversecozy in 2023? Should we stick to one a month or shift to every other month? Want me to continue picking out titles or should we do suggestions/voting? Thanks for your input! 🙂

Soubhiville @ThePageantHam is this a book/ a group you‘d be interested in? 1y
BookmarkTavern I read an arc of this one two years ago, and I am so excited to read it again! And I‘m 100% in for 2023! I‘ve had a couple cozy mysteries on my TBR I‘d love to read with a group, so maybe, if you‘d like, you could open a couple months for suggestions? But I‘d be thrilled either way, this has really broadened my horizons! ❤️ 1y
mhillis I‘m in for next year!! 1y

Mehso-so

Eh. Kinda cute at times. Mostly predictable. I found myself skimming through paragraphs to get to something actually happening vs the protagonist‘s inner monologue. I didn‘t love the writing overall; I don‘t think I‘d look into the author‘s other works unless someone recommended something specific. | ⭐️⭐️⭐️

A shorter read in-between the series I have going on. A writer goes to his family‘s Vermont cabin to beat writer‘s block and starts to receive threats and a murder occurs. Bought on an impulse, interested to see how this one is.

Declan is a down on his luck writer, escaping to his family‘s Vermont cottage at Christmas to work past writer‘s block. He expects quiet, but gets a distractingly attractive Commissioner. And murder.

A fun and quick read. The solve of the mystery surprised me. I was charmed by the setting and the people.

Characters are a bit flat, but have potential. Dialogue was a bit formal at times. And the relationship developed too quick for me. 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑
