A Special Place for Women
A Special Place for Women | Laura Hankin

One of the smartest, sharpest, and funniest books Ive read in years... Some books are meant to be devouredthis one does the devouring.Emily Henry, author of Beach Read Its a club like no other. Only the most important women receive an invitation. But one daring young reporter is about to infiltrate this female-run secret society, whose bewitching members are caught up in a dark and treacherous business. For years, rumors have swirled about an exclusive, women-only social club where the elite tastemakers of NYC meet. People in the know whisper all sorts of claims: Membership dues cost $1,000 a month. Last time Rihanna was in town, she stopped by and got her aura read. The women even handpicked the city's first female mayor. But no one knows for sure. That is, until journalist Jillian Beckley decides she's going to break into the club. With her career in freefall, Jillian needs a juicy scoop, and she has a personal interest in bringing these women down. But the deeper she gets into this new worldwhere billionaire "girlbosses" mingle with occult-obsessed Bohemiansthe more Jillian learns that bad things happen to those who dare to question the club's motives or giggle at its outlandish rituals. The select group of women who populate the club may be far more powerful than she ever imagined. And far more dangerous too.

I loved the premise of this book; it fell a little short for me. A women's secret society is a great start, but the secrets they were hiding were a bit cliche for my taste. In a book that's meant to encourage girl power, the stereotypical viewpoint of the women irked me. And the end didn't work for me at all, it was just so rushed and unrealistic. it just wasn't as interesting or fresh as I had hoped. Soft pick. ⭐⭐⭐✨

We‘re cozied up with a nice candle lit and some evening reading, but the window is open and hearing our neighbors‘ TV is really confusing to Amelia 😆😆

Good lord, I could not stand the POV character. Among other things, she managed to insult me, personally—including twice on one page! I think there was supposed to be witchcraft but I didn‘t get far enough.

I have no idea what this book is about 😂 I‘m 90% sure I put it on hold after Rachael Herron interviewed the author on her podcast, so presumably it sounded great. And it came up on my hold list today when I had finished Anti-Diet, so here goes!

Stayed up into the wee hours finishing this one. I read it cover to cover. Compelling, funny, smart, and meaningful. Jillian decides to infiltrate a secret socialite club: madness ensues. Pick this one up, seriously.

My incredibly ambitious stack for a week at the beach. This doesn‘t include my current physical read nor my audiobook (Local Woman Missing).
