'Full of delicious layers . . . I felt drunk reading it.' Emma Jane Unsworth Intoxicating, compulsive and blackly funny, Other People's Clothes is the thrilling debut novel from Berlin-based American artist Calla Henkel. 2009. Berlin. Two art students arrive from New York, both desperate for the city to solve their problems. Zoe is grieving for her high school best friend, murdered months before in her hometown in Florida. Hailey is rich, obsessed with the exploits of Lindsay Lohan and Britney Spears and wants to be a Warholian legend. Together they rent a once-magnificent apartment from eccentric crime writer Beatrice Becks. With little to fill their time, they spend their nights twisting through Berlin's club scene and their days hungover. Soon inexplicable things start happening in the apartment and the two friends suspect they are being watched by Beatrice. Convinced that their landlord is using their lives as inspiration for her next thriller novel, they decide to beat her at her own game. The girls start hosting wild parties in the flat and quickly gain notoriety, with everyone clamouring for an invite to 'Beatrice's.' But ultimately they find themselves unable to control the narrative and it spirals into much darker territory . . .

Hoping to escape the pain of the recent murder of her best friend, art student Zoe Beech finds herself studying abroad in the bohemian capital of Europe—Berlin. Rudderless, Zoe relies on the arrangements of fellow exchange student Hailey Mader, who idolizes Warhol and Britney Spears and wants nothing more than to be an art star. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is ultimately a book about dreadful, performative people trying to be something they aren‘t. And I thought it was a lot of fun! But it definitely demands to be read at the right time; if I‘d picked it up at a different time, I would have hated it. (Oh, and the audiobook is good overall, but the reader has no idea how to pronounce posthumous.)

LeeRHarry Yep I wasn‘t too keen on this one. 2y

I couldn‘t really relate to the young, foreign party girls that made up the first half of the book. I almost put it down, but I‘m sure glad I didn‘t. The second half really picks up, and that last line made my jaw drop.😧😳 Is this book a favorite? No. Will it be one I remember a year from now? Also no. But it kept my interest and was definitely entertaining. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Josh Hartnett??!! And with that, I‘m right back to the days of high school and college swooning over Josh Hartnett. Even though decades have passed, some things never change! 😅❤️😍🤩

So this book was not my favorite thriller of the year, that being said, the premise had a lot of potential. Zoe, an exchange student studying art in Berlin has a problem with fixating on women and true to form when she meets her new roommate, Hailey, she's enchanted. Together the girls go wild in the night life in Berlin and it's almost a typical coming off age story except that ends in murder. It was interesting. 🌟🌟🌟✨

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This was like a slow, elaborate train derailment. I couldn‘t take me eyes off of the bizarre lives ex-pat art students Zoe and Hailey fashioned for themselves in Berlin. Dark, clever, creepy, weirdly funny, and completely unhinged. This far exceeded my expectations, and I will absolutely read whatever Henkel writes next!

Cinfhen Hmmmm, I agree #CoverLove but the premise isn‘t grabbing me. @Megabooks recently reviewed and she liked it too!! #MayebeOneday 2y

This twisty tale took half the novel to get started. I enjoyed it while reading but nothing memorable for me.

Zoe‘s best friend was murdered, and she starts to assume her bff‘s life, including dating her ex. Zoe heads to art school and goes to Berlin to study abroad and meets Hailey. They stumble into a fantastic apartment but soon realize the owner may be spying on them. Hailey makes more and more bizarre choices because of the spying. ⬇️

Megabooks While this book was a low pick, the #audiobook narration was excellent. 2y
Cinfhen Hmmmm, I‘m not feeling it 😑 it‘s on #scribd so maybe another time 2y
Megabooks @Cinfhen it was fine/good, but I support putting it off. 2y
