Love this series.
In this Laurie King novel, Holmes & Russell are in Roumania investigating suspected supernatural doings in and around Castle Bran. Witches, strigoi, ghosts, werewolves…then I saw this meme and laughed out loud.
I enjoyed Ms King‘s latest, although I agree with others that it is not her best. Mary Russell and Sherlock Holmes are in Roumania at the behest of Queen Marie whose daughter, Ileana, has been threatened. There are also rumored problems with Strigoi (vampires). Absurd, but all is explained to some degree of satisfaction.
My Library borrowed copy has a very unfortunate romance-like cover, but issued during the pandemic allowances must be made?
This series starring Sherlock Holmes and his partner/wife Mary Russell was my first experience where someone other than the original author features well established characters and expounds on their canon in a compelling way. This remains an amazing series 17 volumes in and this latest adventure does not disappoint. If I ever meet Laurie King I will thank her for this and for opening my eyes to the joys of well written pastiche fiction. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Finally finished my July #doublespin Not my favourite of the series, I found it slow going and this hardback edition was riddled with typographical errors. Glad to have it out of my way!
I feel like I've read more in #bookspin July than previously but the roundup doesn't reflect that. My #doublespin Castle Shade is still on the go and I've only just started What We Really Do All Day so they are staying for August. Waterlog, about wild swimming around Britain, wasn't holding my interest so it's been sent back to the library.
July! Though I'm actually rather pleased that 2021 is sailing by at a faster clip than 2020 did even if I have a loitering pessimism that we're not really on the other side yet. Pick me something good to read please #bookspin random numbers and @TheAromaOfBooks
Such a great series. Keep‘m coming Laurie King!
