The Secrets of Us
The Secrets of Us | Lucinda Berry
9 posts | 9 read | 9 to read
Dangerously addictive, The Secrets of Us is a pulse-pounding exploration of a disturbed psyche and the bond between two sisters desperate to escape a troubled past. Foster sisters Krystal and Nichole have always been there for each other, so when Nichole is committed to a psychiatric hospital after trying to kill her husband, Krystal drops everything to defend her. Scarred by a hard upbringing, Nichole and Krystal managed to construct comfortable lives for themselves. Krystal became a respected lawyer, and Nichole was happily married to an architect--until Nichole starts raving that her husband isn't her husband, believing that he's an imposter. Driven by fierce loyalty, Krystal starts asking questions, but she's not sure she can bear the answers. Her investigation leads to the sisters' dark shared past...to a horrible tragedy and a well-guarded lie that cemented their sisterly bond. But that lie can't kill the truth--the battered, gasping, clawing truth that's coming for them both. Now Krystal and Nichole must both fight for the lives they've built before they're consumed by the one they left behind.

I finished a second somewhat dark book during the #readathon and might finish a third one by the end of the day.

Psychological thrillers aren‘t really my cup of tea, but this one is well done and a page turner.

Andrew65 Well done, will have to search this one out. 👏👏👏 2y

Right away this reminded me of a true story I read last year about a woman who “went crazy” but there was a biological reason. The more this story went on,the more I could see trauma was culprit. Most people don‘t take trauma seriously, but your brain never forgets. I guessed the identity twist, it had to be “her;” I kept thinking all along she had something to do with it all.The book was very good, LB did her research on this one.Book#56 in2022

Great book! Full of twists and dropping bombs. I really appreciated Berry's writing style, alternating between past and present. We slowly learn the secrets that haunt these two sisters.

A clever plot that alternates between the past and the present to show how childhood traumas can indeed effects us as adults.
