I‘m just a casual art fan, but my lifelong fascination with all things Van Gogh is no joke. This book focuses on his sunflower paintings, carefully describing and tracing them from creation through today (with the exception of the beautiful Six Sunflowers, which was destroyed in WWII), while also touching on the artist‘s life and death. Gorgeous photos throughout… I can look at this book all day.

Wow! I‘m reading all the books about Van Gogh and this was a revelation! Martin Bailey is the leading scholar on Vincent‘s art and he‘s written several micro-histories of which this is the first. Part biography, part detective work, Sunflowers follows the journeys of Vincent‘s masterpieces from creation through their ultimate destinations (one died in the WWII bombing of Japan). I learned so much and in such a fun way! The color illustrations 😘
