I‘ve been slightly obsessed with In the Heights since watching their Tony‘s performance back in 2008, and I loved the movie as well. So getting to learn more about the show‘s creation and seeing Lin-Manuel Miranda‘s annotations included with the lyrics was exactly what I needed. If you enjoy this show and are even slightly interested in Broadway musicals, I highly recommend checking this one out.

Listened to the audio with the print book so I am counting this twice. I did the same with the Hamilton book and I recommend it because the photos are gorgeous and it‘s so neat how they juxtaposed photos from the movie next to the same scenes of the original broadway run. In the Heights was the first movie I saw in the theater after everything closed down in 2020. It was a perfect choice, with its amazing musical numbers so vibrant on the big screen.

As with Hamilton, In the Heights has more layers than I could take in on one viewing, and of course, there's an interesting backstory. ⬇

UnabridgedPod So, I was thrilled when I found out that there would be a companion book for the new movie (as there was for Hamilton). I loved reading about the origins of the musical, about its journey to the stage, and about the changes that Lin-Manuel Miranda and Quiara Alegría Hudes made for the screen adaptation. Jeremy McCarter does a great job delving into the fascinating story behind the musical. 3y

The very first NYC Broadway musical I ever saw was In the Heights when I was 25. Revisiting that show through the creators‘ stories was a delight! I loved hearing the behind-the-scenes reveals & the ways that the show has impacted so many through the years. If you‘re a fan of the musical, don‘t miss this! The same friend who I saw the show with in NYC listened to the audiobook w/me on our recent road trip. We couldn‘t stop grinning the whole time.
