Listened to the audio with the print book so I am counting this twice. I did the same with the Hamilton book and I recommend it because the photos are gorgeous and it‘s so neat how they juxtaposed photos from the movie next to the same scenes of the original broadway run. Hearing about how it‘s been adapted in other countries in their own languages was awesome 🤯 +11 pts #BookSpinBingo #Screamathon #Scareathlon #TeamSlaughter #Spookoween

So I read this and watched it this morning. Book 2.5 ⭐️ - the translation wasn‘t great so the grammar and sentence structure was distracting. The build of the story had potential and again I think the English version did the book no favors. Also one of my things I hate happened in the end-will share w/spoiler in comments. Movie was better and very weird. #screamathon #scarepairs #scareathlon #teamhendrix

Nessavamusic Brutal death of a dog, lessened in the movie. 2y
BekahB That movie - watched it about 10 years ago and those last few minutes are still burned into my brain. 😂 2y

Laughterhp What is that Addams family book? 3y
Butterfinger @Laughterhp no. LOL. I can't handle horror movies so I thought I would watch an episode a night for #Scarathlon. "They're creepy and they're ghouly." 3y
Laughterhp Ohhh gotcha! I was like “I want to read a book about the Addams family” 😂😂 I don‘t do horror either, so I‘m planning to watch the movie that came out last year. 3y

It was great getting to know Murakami in this collection of short stories. He is a master of metaphor and capturing moments that are both disorienting and human (see "The Mirror" and "The Seventh Man"). Yet, some stories were dull (e.g., "Tony Takitani") and others too different to fit well with this collection (eg"The Ice Man"). I have heard that this isn't Murakami's best work... Let me know if you have any Murakami recommendations!

Yuki_Onna @sleepy.ash87 I love Murakami's novels, but I'm not too fond of his short stories either. I find his style is best brought to bear in a longer narrative. And yes, sometimes his style may seem dull because he often talks about the most trivial things (e.g. preparing food) at great length. But that's just part of his style and charm.
Do you like magical realism? ⬇
4y
Yuki_Onna @sleepy.ash87 (continued) If so, his most frequently recommended works are 'Kafka on the Shore' and 'A Wild Sheep Chase' (And of course '1Q84,' but I think that's way too long to try him out.
If you're undecided, I recommend 'After dark' or 'Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki and his years of pilgrimage' as they are relatively short, still quite weird but not too heavy on the magical realism side... 😏
If you have more questions or are interested in a ... ⬇

Yuki_Onna @sleepy.ash87 buddy read, you're more than welcome to hit me up! I'm always looking for reasons to reread Murakami. 😋 🌸 So far I've read all of his books apart from 'Killing Commendatore'. I'm saving that one for my next long holidays. ⭐ 4y

sleepy.ash87 @Yuki_Onna I am new to Litsy and it is from responses like yours that I am learning the wonderful value of using this platform to connect! I actually *love* magical realism. Good news! My library carries 'Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki and His Years of Pilgrimage.' I will check it out before the end of next week. Yes, let's read together if you'd like to join me! 4y
Yuki_Onna @sleepy.ash87 🤗 Yep, I also learned quickly that Litsy is an incredibly fun, helpful and friendly platform! And I just love talking about Murakami's books! 😅 If you like magical realism, he is perfect for you! 😻 Kafka on the Shore or Wild Sheep Chase or Dance, Dance, Dance... Perfect! 👌Tell me when you'd like to start with 'Colorless Tsukuru' ⬇ 4y
Yuki_Onna @sleepy.ash87 (continued) October is going to be busy for me, though, as I plan on participating in #scareathlon and #screamathon ... 😁 But I'm always up for a buddy read! Have a nice evening! 💜 4y
alisiakae Welcome to Litsy! I haven't read this one yet, but I love The Wind Up Bird Chronicle, and Kafka on the Shore. 4y

Going with another thriller for Bk3 of my #MrBook1InAMillion #LitsyPartyOfOne #24B4Monday #readathon I read Thirteen by the same author for last months #Scareathlon & really liked it, so I‘m hoping for another hit. The blurb doesn‘t give much away-Before you read this know 3 things 1.The police look to charge me with murder 2.No one knows who I am or how I did it 3.If you think you‘ve found me I‘m coming for you next. The truth is more twisted🤔

rockpools Look forward to your review of this one - Thirteen was great! Hope he keeps it up. 4y
MidnightBookGirl I did enjoy Th1rt3en, so maybe I'll snag this one! 4y

1. Finding new books to read - how much I've branched out since joining. Also, since joining I've learned to let crap books go. Bail has changed my reading life.
2. For whatever reason, I find it annoying when authors post about their books on here 🤷‍♀️
3. I'd really like some way to just look through top hashtags.. would be useful to see what sorta fun stuff I might be missing lol
4. Try to daily.
5-6 in comments!

#KeepLitsyActive @ljuliel

night_shift 5. I like all those, though I haven't done a read along before. 4y
night_shift 6. More interaction, probably. I know I'm not the best at commenting... and the likes are nice, but they're just kinda like a tap and move on thing. It also just feels obligatory at this point? Idk. 4y
StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego I could be wrong, but I think on the computer version of Litsy it shows what hashtags are trending. I've only looked at it once, as I usually use my phone, but I think I remember seeing that. 4y

LibrarianRyan If you on on the desk top there is a top # section on the right side of the screen. right now #24beforemonday and #scareathlon are trending. 4y
gradcat Love your number 3. I no longer use a computer, so I don‘t really use the web app. ♥️ 4y
Sace I'm working on 6. I try to comment as much as I can. 4y
ljuliel Thanks very kindly 💕 4y
Sace @LibrarianRyan trending hashtags is way too Twitter, Insta anonymous mindless social media to me (I am a curmudgeon) and I try to ignore them. 4y
ljuliel @Sace. You‘re in either good or bad company , depending on how you look at it. I‘m a curmudgeon too. Old and grumpy and I don‘t get dome of this newfangled stuff. And I don‘t want to learn. 🤨 (edited) 4y
Sace @ljuliel and honestly I see a lot of what I perceive as self-promotion and other questionable behavior that I have my own baggage about so I try to avoid it and not rain on any parades. 4y
night_shift @StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego maybe? I only ever use the app. I've also heard that the apple version has a way to sort notifications, which android doesn't have (yet?) And that would be helpful too for me as I miss comments a lot between the likes 🤷‍♀️ really, just wish everything was consistent not matter how you access Litsy. 4y
night_shift @LibrarianRyan #Scarathlon it still trending? Huh! @gradcat yeah, my computer is almost exclusively for writing and playing sims, so I sorta just avoid anything I can just do on my phone. Also, phones are easier to use when you've got a grabby 11-mnth-old lol 4y
StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego Yes, consistancy between devices would be ideal! 4y
night_shift @Sace I feel you about the social media rat race thing, but Litsy has never really felt like that so the tags I think just keep things in order? The problem is, the more people you follow the more things get lost in the feed and I don't really feel like scrolling for hours to find a thing. 🤷‍♀️ 4y
night_shift @ljuliel no problem! I'm young and grumpy, and sometimes I don't get some of this new stuff (it changes so fast) but learning keeps the minds active, so 🤷‍♀️ 4y
LibrarianRyan @UnidragonFrag because of WinterGames. It will be like Screamathon so yes, people are still tagging it. Plus we do have a few late All Hallows Read Swaps. 4y
night_shift @LibrarianRyan 😂 I'm getting that now as I literally just did that posting about #wintergames 4y
BookwormAHN @UnidragonFrag I also wish android could separate notifications 😺 4y
LibrarianRyan @Sace @Ljuliel I can always tell when someone is new and trying to run a rat race and jump their litfluence to be seen or become important. I love that Litsy makes that a bit hard to do. It's kind of like celebrating a six-digit number. It is hard to get there. I don't care about my litfluence, but when I started out I did a bit. It was a rush. The first 30K were easy. Making it to that 6 digits was one surprising, and hard. 7D for @MrBook 4y
Sace @LibrarianRyan I don't see it from just new people either. There are a few users and events I feel were oversaturating my feed so I did a lot of weeding. I need to do more. I did one litfluence giveaway but I'm at the point now I wish it was gone or at least that there was an option not to see it or anyone else's. 4y
LibrarianRyan @Sace I won‘t lie, I was tired of screamathon and all the movie postings. I say that and am a team captain for winter games. I am looking forward to it. But I going to try and keep my other than book posts few. Or tell everyone who don‘t want to see it to mute my teams tag and I‘m going with something pretty unique so it will only mute winter games from my team. 4y
Sace @LibrarianRyan Maybe if it were easier to mute hashtags from the app it might make things easier for people? What gets my goat is how many very similar activities were happening all at the same time and since I know there was an issue once before a year or more ago I always give the similar hashtags a side eye and try to avoid either. I don't know which was the original so I won't participate in either! Yup. I'm a jerk. 4y
LibrarianRyan @Sace it‘s not a jerk at all. It‘s what you don‘t like and you don‘t need to apologize for it. 4y
twohectobooks @Sace @LibrarianRyan muting hashtags on the app would be a game changer. I exclusively use litsy on my phone and while I could certainly keep a list of hashtags to mute next time I use my desktop, that‘s a level of inconvenience that will drive many users away. People expect way more app functionality nowadays. 4y
night_shift @LibrarianRyan sometimes, with some of the events, I think people are just in it for the points... not just newbies, either. I couldn't ever figure out how to wrack up the points when I first started, but then I hung around enough so stopped caring lol I participated in Scarathlon and definitely was getting tired of the posts, especially movies, toward the end. 4y
night_shift @Sace what sorta issue? I'm trying to think... there's usually not any drama on here and I don't really remember anything from last year? But I did get ya. With those similar hashtags. Works be nice to have a way to mute. Not sure how that could work. 4y
LibrarianRyan @UnidragonFrag there was some swap drama but it‘s usually the same 2 or 3 people. 4y
night_shift @twohectobooks yeah, people definitely do expect more functionality... litsy is still pretty small though and their team may be working on these things, but I can't imagine it's a quick process. Bringing in more people to work/ use might help? But then... would they start ads to keep up? That would suck. And the more popular it gets, more spam which is almost nonexistent now. So idk. 4y
night_shift @LibrarianRyan Ah, I haven't done one in a while. Not since my last swap never posted anything about recieving my box. She confirmed with the host she got it, but nothing on here. It was a bummer as I thought it was nice, but maybe she didn't like it? Idk. Rubbed me the wrong way and haven't really felt the desire to participate in one again. I like seeing what everyone else got though. 4y
LibrarianRyan @UnidragonFrag I won‘t lie I‘m a little burnt out. I love doing them but hosting ughh. I love it when it goes well but I had some flakes and other issues, so I‘m breaking for a bit. Plus I have some fun winter stuff coming up and am a team captain for winter games. 4y
night_shift @LibrarianRyan dude, I can only imagine how stressful it's gotta be hosting swaps. That's too much for me! I don't have the patience for silliness some people pull on those. Good luck with the team captain thing! 4y
Sace @UnidragonFrag maybe it's just something that rubbed me (and only me) the wrong way, but someone planned an event that to me looked like a straight up copy of an already well-established event and even used the copyrighted image. Names were changed and the image was removed, but I've never forgotten it. For all I know the originals have given their blessing to the copycat event because I swear it's on my feed every other frigging week. 4y
LibrarianRyan @Sace oh yeahhhhh. That was crazy! Yep yep yep. 4y
night_shift @Sace oh! I think I know what you're talking about! And yeah, it's like a monthly thing now and definitely isn't the original.. no idea if there's been any blessings given. You'd think copyright would be something readers at least understand? Idk. 4y
Sace @UnidragonFrag a-yup. Hence my annoyance. 4y
BeansPage Wow. I sure hope the person that you're talking about doesn't see this conversation on this very public forum. It might hurt somebody's feelings. 4y
gradcat I‘m a big one for an iPad, but I do love my iPhone...it‘s just so small! @UnidragonFrag 😂 4y
gradcat @TheReadingMermaid Tamara, I don‘t think I say it enough, but I‘m SOOO glad you‘re here. You always bring a dose of thought(-fulness) ... I‘m so ignorant on here that I‘m not even sure what everyone is referring to here, I just hope I‘m not the one who did it. But no matter—I‘m very much an old, fat curmudgeon, but my goal for this later stage of my life is to try to be kind. I was not very good at it when I was younger! Thank you for your wisdom. 4y
night_shift @gradcat I don't do any apple products, but so often it seems apps get updates there before android does, which is kinda frustrating lol 4y
night_shift @TheReadingMermaid I honestly don't know what was said that could hurt someone's feelings. 4y
gradcat @UnidragonFrag With apple products, it‘s often the other way around...they update the operating system & then the apps can‘t keep up...not sure which is worse! 🤷🏽‍♀️ 😂 4y
night_shift @gradcat oh! That would suck! 4y
gradcat @UnidragonFrag It does!! It sucks! 😂 4y

Pickpick

Review of the last book of my #Scareathlon #TeamSlaughter playlist and I picked a great book to go out on a bang with. I love the movie & I thought I‘d read this before, but I realised I‘d only read Red Dragon & Hannibal but skipped this for some reason. This is everything a thriller should be, it‘s fast, aggressive, disturbing & very clever. It‘s not perfect at all, but it‘s a great read. Perfect end to the #readathon 11points #PointsTotal-2,128
