Secrets of a Hollywood Matchmaker
Secrets of a Hollywood Matchmaker: An Austen-Inspired Romantic Comedy | Gigi Blume
2 posts | 1 read | 3 to read
Single Pringle never to mingle. EMMA That's the pact I have with my best friend who happens to be the sexiest man in Hollywood. But although one does not simply snog their bestie, it doesn't mean we can't pretend for the screen. Pucker up, mate. JAXSON Who am I kidding? Emma Woods is Hollywood's sweetheart. The star in my next film. My best mate. Off limits. But lately, the torch I've been carrying for her is burning into a fiery flame. And what do I do? I cast myself as her romantic lead. Genius? Or daft? The jury's still out on that one. ????? Can't tell you how many times I laughed out loud ????? One of my favorite reads of the entire year! ????? This book is rockingly funny. ? Sweet with a touch of heat, Secrets of a Hollywood Matchmaker is a laugh out loud, hysterical friends-to-lovers romance. ? If you like simmering chemistry, clever and witty banter, heart-stopping kisses, and fast-paced humor, you'll fall for Jaxson and Emma in this sweet rom com based on Jane Austen's timeless classic, Emma.

Pickpick

The book pictured, which I'm reviewing, is actually a short novella, and a prequel to the tagged book. I scored this for free (thanks for the heads-up, @rubyslippersreads !), and it was a very cute little adaptation. We see movie star Emma Woods make a match for her hairstylist Annie Taylor and we meet Emma's friend and collaborator Jaxson Knightley. Other Austen-inspired characters make cameos, which nicely sets up Blume's entire series. 👇👇👇

Andrea313 It's not my usual type of thing, but I think the short length encouraged me, plus the author is clearly a a musical theatre fan. But here's where my review turns into a tangent: I had to crack up at a plot point involving a new musical based on the American Civil War; I think the author must have missed the Frank Wildhorn catastrophe called The Civil War, and if you missed it, too, please go watch the show's performance at the '99 Tonys. 👇 3y
Andrea313 Come to laugh at the flag-waving and slo-mo battle choreo; stay for a post-RENT Gilles Chaisson and Keith Byron Kirk, who deserved way better roles, way more noteriety, and all the awards, and who is LIVING as Frederick Douglass in this performance: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=8Rmgs9OUiyw #PemberLittens 3y
