Award-Winning Wall Street Journal bestselling author Kennedy Ryan launches a brand-new series with a Hollywood tale of wild ambition, artistic obsession, and unrelenting love. One moment in the spotlight . . . For months I stood by, an understudy waiting in the wings, preparing for my time to shine. I never imagined he would watch in the audience that night. Canon Holt. Famous film director. Fascinating. Talented. Fine Before I could catch my breath, everything changed. I went from backstage Broadway to center stage Hollywood. From being unknown, to my name, Neevah Saint, on everyones lips. Canon casts me in a star-studded Harlem Renaissance biopic, catapulting me into another stratosphere. But stars shine brightest in the dead of night. Forbidden attraction, scandal and circumstances beyond my control jeopardize my dream. Could this one shotthe role of a lifetime, the love of a lifetimecost me everything?

Reel is giving me all the feels on this sleety Monday afternoon. The snow is about to start soon and this teacher is already praying for an extra day off so that my tea sipping can continue!

A famous director casts a newly discovered actress in a biopic that is his passion project. Sounds like the start of a typical romance but Ryan makes this feel anything but typical. Strong characters, a potent portrayal of chronic illness, and a relationship that is given time to develop made this book hard to put down.

I'm interested in the stories lost in the crevices of history.

Canon and Neevah's love affair in this story pulls on every. heart string available. A love and attraction that is undeniable and yet somewhat forbidden, makes for a beautiful and beloved journey. As these two study each other as well as the characters on the page in this production, two things are apparent: talent cannot be taught and love cannot be forced.

This will be a strong contender for my favorite romance of the year and a favorite of all time. This was a beautiful love story, and also a historical fiction story within the contemporary romance. Featuring a director and a fresh faced actress with a chronic illness. (Note this is not a casting couch situation at all) I cannot recommend this enough. Great chronic illness rep, a #lgbtq+ story within as well. 5⭐️

I will definitely be reading more Kennedy Ryan romances in the future! This was an absorbing story of a love between an actress and director, as well as a story about dealing with a chronic illness while living a full life. I only have two reservations about this specific book. The first is that I wanted a little more about the movie and how it was received at the end of the book. (I couldn't find the second epilogue online.) The second was that👇

ScientistSam , despite clear writing to show that the relationship is consensual, I personally still have a bit of a tough time with the work power dynamic given that the hero is the director of the movie that the heroine stars in. But overall it was a great #romantsy read! 2y
