Switching from cozy fantasy to cozy mystery…still in that mood but looking for a little more plot!
Lowkey I might be too invested in the budding romance between investigative journalist Vera Vixen 🦊 & Deputy Orville Braun 🐻 because I was stressed when the miscommunication trope hit. This book focused on newly discovered moose bones and it‘s not long before suspicion falls on local cafe owner, Joe - whose wife vanished over a decade ago. It‘s not the hardest case to crack but like a good episode of Murder, She Wrote - it‘s an excellent time!
I love this cozy mystery series! Vera the fox is on the case again, out to prove her good friend Joe the moose innocent. Bones are discovered, belonging to his wife who disappeared years ago, and they show that she was murdered! Vera must balance her investigation with her news reporter duties and her blossoming romance with the deputy of police.
Honestly I'm here less for the mystery, and more for the cozy woodland neighborhood vibes

The town of Shady Hollow is once again upset when the bones of a moose are found in an orchard. The only suspect is Joe, the owner of the local coffee shop whose wife disappeared years ago. & it‘s up to Vera Vixen to prove his innocence.
This whole series is so charming! The characters are distinct, & the setting is lovely. The mystery was really clever & paced very well, & Vera is such a great protagonist. She‘s plucky & determined! 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑

My library got the e-books of the Shady Hollow cozy mystery series in finally so I‘m working through them. They are fun cozies told from animal POVs & I find they just work if you can picture the friendships & relationships between the different animal characters. I really like Vera our fox reporter/detective & the small town vibe. This one centers on the disappearance of popular coffee⬇️
Taking a break from trying to gather some things for my upcoming Maine work trip along with other errands. Camping at the coffee shop for a bit with the barista‘s recommendation of the Kai Club sandwich & my usual dirty chai latte with Oatmilk & a pump of coconut syrup.
Reading a few chapters of the tagged book & all the #5JoysFriday post I haven‘t gotten to yet. 💛💛💛 Then journaling catch up & some #LitsyLove replies.
This is another pretty much perfect cozy read.
And as much as talking animals living in a small town are fantasy, that bit remains incidental to the mystery.
And there are so many sly bits that made me giggle.
🎶 I got memoirs. I got fiction. I got new books. Who could ask for anything more?🎶

I‘ve been waiting most impatiently 🦊 Vera Vixen is back! I‘m just as deeply charmed & invested as before ❤️update: I sleuthed out the correct culprit 🕵️♀️ very satisfying— would make a perfect autumnal read 🍁can‘t wait to start the next one!
11 year murder mystery to solve
The second in the shady hollow series, it gets easier to forget they are all animals, this has more of a mystery to work out, and long overdue justice is finally served. Joe learns where is wife is, and why, Vera learns to trust Orville. Better than book one, or I‘ve got better at ignoring obvious problems.
