pickGood times! Definitely lighter in tone than some of the entries in this series. For all that the stakes include threats of everything from ruination of reputations, careers, to bodily injury and death, I'm pretty sure the body count was non-existent. 1/?
pickI absolutely love love love the Slough House books, each one gets better. Never thought I would find myself rooting for Diana Taverner but there are more nefarious characters than Lady Di in the most recent outing for the Park and Slough House. As usual Mick Herron's writing of The Rod'ster, and Shirley Dander are laugh out loud, as are the quips Jackson Lamb throws out. Louisa is still my favorite, but you do have to support the entire crew.
... one of Lamb's crew... shipped off to the Service's drying out facility the morning after Sophie de Greer disappears. The morning after de Greer makes a phone call to Jackson Lamb. It was a matter of patterns; he saw them where others noticed only random particle motion. And here was one. That incident in Wimbledon - Shirley Dander attacking a tourist coach with an iron was too outlandish to be anything other than a cover story.
pickThe 8th in Mick Herron‘s SLOUGH HOUSE SERIES uses a missing person case to incorporate a savage commentary on UK politics. Like SLOUGH HOUSE there‘s a strong set-up feel with Herron manoeuvring characters and motivation for Book 9 but Wheelan‘s return, Taverner‘s tribulations and Shirley‘s rage issues are all a lot of fun, I enjoyed seeing John Bachelor from the novellas and there are some hilarious lines such that I can‘t wait for Book 9.
