#OnThisDay in 1899, tramp poet WH Davies attempted to jump a freight train in Renfrew, Ontario and instead lost his foot. Following a short recovery period, the Welshman returned to Britain and began to commit his poems to paper. In 1905, his self published poetry caught the eye of a few literary critics, and he began making a name as a man of words.
