Pickpick

What happens when apes are given human genes and develop a human-like brain, all in the name of making them more capable of surviving the evils man has done to them & their habitat? Such a bonobo is placed in the care of the Duttons, until they are forced to return sweet smart Umber to Africa, where augmented apes may be on a killing spree. Quite a thriller; I loved it, getting to know Umber, and then discovering who was truly evil. ⬇️

#thoughtfulthursday

1) I have routines I‘ve never really thought of as rituals, but I guess they are. One is I must start my day with hot black tea—the smell makes me happy—a good way to start the day

2) Almost always. Tagged book was tonight‘s read

3) I‘ve had tinnitus, a loud whistle in both ears, my whole life so I‘m not sure what total quiet must feel like

Care to play? @KristiAhlers @Catsandbooks @curiouserandcurioser @freeatlast1137

KristiAhlers Thanks for the tag! 2y
Catsandbooks Tea sounds like a great way to start the day! Thanks for the tag! ❤️ Hope you're recovering well! 2y
MoonWitch94 Ohhhh my Mom just started experiencing tinnitus. It‘s no joke! Does anything help it or is it just something you‘re used to? Thanks for playing 📖🌙🙂 2y

GingerAntics This is what terrifies me about what‘s happening here right now. 2y
Texreader @GingerAntics We think similarly 2y
GingerAntics @Texreader I genuinely hope more people think this way and so we can all work to prevent the destruction of our civilisation. 2y

I just learned that Spanish is the official language of #EquatorialGuinea. I confirmed it on Wikipedia because I didn‘t quite believe it. The country had been a Spanish colony. So many of the countries seemed to have been French colonies so I had made the wrong assumption.

I‘m at a point in the tagged book in which reporters have just booked into the only hotel in an #EquatorialGuinea town and I decided to look it up on Google satellite. There is only one hotel in town, with a different name, but I became fascinated with looking at these countries I‘ve been reading about. This is such a cool way to bring #readingafrica2022 to life!! I highly recommend it. Why haven‘t I done this before?. @Librarybelle @BarbaraBB

BarbaraBB That‘s is so cool to do. I do it sometimes too and it always adds to the experience 2y

#20in4readathon wrap up:

I‘d hoped to finish the three books I was reading on May 27 since I had a lot of reading time recovering from surgery. Unfortunately a lot of that time was spent sleeping from the painkillers. I finished A Fish Caught in Time, and read about 30 pages of Dark Inheritance. I only listened to a few minutes to When the Ground is Hard. I had almost no listening opportunities. Still I‘m happy with the progress I did make.

Andrew65 Well done, and hope you are feeling better soon. 2y

Third book coincidence in as many days and from three entirely different books: men‘s preoccupation with sex. Hopefully three‘s a charm, and I won‘t have any more such references.

I liked my previous book coincidences better—I remember a few years back when every book I read somehow got in something about the Ottoman Empire.

GingerAntics Women being seen as objects is rather depressing. 2y

I‘ve read tons of the Gears‘ books about early Native Americans and so I anticipate this to be an excellently researched and well written book. Here a professor is explaining evolution in equatorial Africa
