Ruby Barretts writing leaves me breathless. Rosie Danan A fiery restaurant owner falls for her enigmatic head chef in this charming, emotional romance Amy Chambers: restaurant owner, micromanager, control freak. Amy will do anything to revive her ailing restaurant, including hiring a former reality-show finalist with good connections and a lot to prove. But her hopes that Sophies skills and celebrity status would bring her restaurant back from the brink of failure are beginning to wane Sophie Brunet: grump in the kitchen/sunshine in the streets, took thirty years to figure out she was queer. Sophie just wants to cook. She doesnt want to constantly post on social media for her dead-in-the-water reality TV career, she doesnt want to deal with Amys take-charge personality and she doesnt want to think about what her attraction to her boss might mean Then, an opportunity: a new foodie TV show might provide the exposure they need. An uneasy truce is fine for starters, but making their dreams come true means making some personal and painful sacrifices and soon, theres more than just the restaurant at stake. Carina Adores is home to romantic love stories where LGBTQ+ characters find their happily-ever-afters. Book 1: Hot Copy Book 2: The Romance Recipe

I didn‘t make it very far into THE ROMANCE RECIPE before bed last night, but the opening gave me all the culinary drama vibes I could wish for. Hopefully I‘ll be able to get really stuck into it today.

Casey would like you to know these toys are all VERY IMPORTANT, which is why he needs all three of them spread out on his rug. Thank you.

dabbe Thanks for letting us know, Casey. You da man! 🤩🖤🐾🖤🤩 2mo

Amy hired Sophie to be the head chef at her restaurant bc she‘s qualified & she‘s gorgeous. now as her boss, Amy can‘t go there, also Sophie is straight so it‘s fine. Sophie is not straight &recently single since her fiancé didn‘t take the bisexual bomb well. Amy needs Sophie to help save the struggling restaurant &Sophie needs help getting her confidence back. &they may do some unsanitary things in the kitchen while they‘re at it. loved this book

This wasn't quite the romance for me, but I think overall it did what it set out to do very well. It's about a celebrity chef and her restaurant owner, both of whom are already pining for each other when the book begins. This romance set up doesn't interest me much. But the chef, Sophie, is a newly out bi woman at age 30 and the depiction of her later in life coming out and encountering biphobia, was excellent. Also steamy sapphic sex scenes!

Okay this might be an unforgivable mistake for an audiobook voice actor to mispronounce "poutine" when it's supposed to be a Montrealer saying it! The other character even remarks on how she pronounces it!! (The actor says "poutin" instead of "pouteen"). ????

JamieArc I‘m so curious to hear how she pronounces it! She doesn‘t pronounce it like putain does she? 😂😂 2y
AlaMich I always wonder about that with audiobooks. Is nobody listening to how the narrator pronounces things, or do they just not want to tell the voice actors they‘re saying it wrong? 2y
CaseyTheCanadianLesbrarian @AlaMich yeah, don't they read the book beforehand and then do research to make sure any unusual words are pronounced correctly?? This is an American production, so I assume they don't know the actor was saying it wrong? 2y
CaseyTheCanadianLesbrarian @JamieArc yeah, Putin but with the emphasis on the othe syllable! 2y
AlaMich Probably, although I‘m American and I know how it‘s pronounced. 😉 2y

4.5 stars, sweet sapphic romance with an a-hole verbally abusive father, I did really enjoy this, the dad was a lot like my own, a bully, but overall it was a funny, sweet book that I thoroughly enjoyed. I wish they'd gotten into the mom more though. I'm glad they didn't really try to redeem the dad and give him so excuse. The narrators were great but I wish they'd had more distinctive voices, it was a bit confusing at parts who's POV.

While I enjoyed this book and the sex scenes were certainly numerous and spicy, I did feel that there wasn't enough in the plot to make it memorable for me. I also think I just prefer rom-coms as I really enjoy the witty banter and humour, whereas this was more serious romance. That being said I will watch for more from this fairly new author (it is only her second novel) and enjoyed the glimpse into the restaurant business. I gave it 3.5/5.
