The Maze | Nelson DeMille

#1 New York Times bestselling author Nelson DeMille returns with a blistering thriller featuring his most popular series character, former NYPD homicide detective John Corey, called out of retirement to investigate a string of grisly murders much too close to home. In his dazzling #1 bestselling novel, Plum Island, Nelson DeMille introduced fans to detective John Corey in an iconic scene: sitting on a porch looking out across the ocean, contemplating the dangers around him. Years later, The Maze opens with Corey, on the verge of retirement, sitting on a porch, pondering the very same things. Scanning the horizon for his enemies; calculating escape routes; drinking a beer for breakfast. But then trouble does appear, and the justice-seeking former detective in Corey can’t ignore it. A series of bodies has been found along a beach close to his home and he can no longer deny that a serial killer is on the loose, and that no one in law enforcement seems able to find the culprit. Is the failure to find the perpetrator a result of a clever cover-up by the police? Is it due to the fact the victims are prostitutes? Or is it something darker? Could the killer be someone powerful on the inside? The fact that Corey’s beautiful girlfriend may have purposefully enticed him into this involvement adds further dangerous intrigue. John Corey must root out friend and foe in this dazzling thriller, which features his trademark irreverent voice, matched by brilliant investigative skills, and the masterful plot twists that are a signature of the #1 New York Times bestseller Nelson DeMille.

Nelson DeMille returns with his best thriller yet featuring former homicide detective John Corey who is called out of retirement to investigate a string of searing, grisly murders that take place a little too close to home. Corey is now in forced retirement and is asked by his former lover in Plum Island, Detective Beth Penrose, to help search for a serial killer.

EadieB This is my first John Corey book. I am enjoying John Corey's dry sarcastic humor which gives the book an extra boost. The book seems to be inspired and based on the unsolved Gilgo Beach murders. I want to go back and read the other books in the series. I found all the characters to be interesting and the plot action is such that it kept me reading until the very end of the book. 2y
EadieB I would highly recommend The Maze and find that if you like mystery thrillers, then you will love this book. I would like to thank NetGalley and Scribner for a copy for an honest review. 2y
EadieB This my my #doublespin book! 2y

I‘m a huge fan of DeMille and have read all his books; my favorites are his John Corey novels (like this newest one) as he‘s a hard-drinking, badass, fighter, lover, and hilariously awesome man! Pic is 22 years old when my teacher-friend and I met DeMille who is just as warm and funny as his protagonist!
#NetGalley out 10/11/22

DivineDiana How exciting that must have been! And I am excited because surprisingly, I recently found that I have a copy of the same book that you are holding! A friend passed it on to me to read. I have never read a Demille book, so I wasn‘t planning on reading it soon. Now, I have changed my mind!😀 2y
Alfoster @DivineDiana Cool! Let me know if you like it! I laugh out loud at his humor!🤞 2y
Reggie I love John Corey! I laughed so hard on Plum Island. The one about mutually assured destruction kept me up at night. But I never read past the one that ends at 9-11. 2y
Alfoster @Reggie This was a good one for sure! 2y
