I appreciated the idea of what the author was trying to do, but the story lagged in some parts, and I just wanted to get to the points sooner!

This one just didn't have enough of a hook to make me want to slog through the slow build. The premise of the story is great. Execution, not so much. Also some eye roll on details in the beginning stemming from a man's perspective of pregnancy and birth. I tried to push on because of the positive reviews (made it 28%), but it's just not worth it to me.

This story of four generations of women was waaaaaaay too choppy to be engrossing or emotionally resonant
Four women, four stories, four different time periods.
Historical fiction fans will devour this very beautifully written, complex read that pulls at your heart strings and shows the power of motherly love and a cruel world. 4/5

This is a fascinating historical fiction novel about 4 generations of woman. It was well researched and I learned so much more about such things as the Nazis eugenics program and Operation Peter Pan out of Cuba. The sheer number of characters and the long time span did mean I didn't get quite as attached to the characters as I would have liked, but I still enjoyed the story and being educated while being entertained is a plus every time. 3.75/5

Four women, four stories, four different time periods.
Three of them - Ally, Lilith, Nadine - mothers who find themselves in similar situations - they had to send their daughters away to protect them because of war and prejudice. The fourth is Luna who never married.
The alluring, gorgeous cover adds to the captivating storyline. 4/5

This is really good. It's about a mixed race girl and her mom in 1940s Berlin. And how to make sure the daughter survives being labeled a mischling. But that's the beginning. It's multigenerational and it sort of loops back on itself. Looking at who the monsters are actually and under what circumstances.
