A Christmas Memory was the shining star in this collection of three lovely holiday stories. Definitely my new favorite Christmas tale to revisit in future years. Based on Capote‘s childhood experiences in rural Alabama — particularly his relationship as a boy with his elderly cousin and best friend — the stories are funny, touching, and so delightful.

I thought I hadn‘t read this before, but as I started reading the story I remembered I had. What a wonderful reread. The stories One Christmas and The Thanksgiving Visitor were new to me. All of the stories are written so well, but A Christmas Memory for me is especially moving and such a beautiful snapshot of an unlikely friendship of a young boy and a distant elderly cousin during one special holiday. Absolutely love it.

This collection of short stories is one of my favorites, and I try to read it every year around this time. My favorite part is when Truman and his friend Sook gather ingredients for their fruitcakes in a variety of ways. Ever since I first read this story in 9th grade English class that‘s what I‘ve had in mind for ideal Christmas prep.

I missed this the first time around during the chaos of the pre-holiday season, but it made me smile when I ran across it today in the December issue of "O, The Oprah Magazine" (the English major part of me demands that I write the full title). I first read the story in junior high and re-read it whenever I get the chance, which will now be much more often since I bought a sale copy for my Kindle.

3 seasonal short stories, all somewhat autobiographical, about a young boy growing up with his extended family in Alabama.

A perfect short read for Christmas. Might have to make rereading it an annual tradition. 🎄✨
