The Party House
The Party House: An Atmospheric and Twisty Thriller Set in the Scottish Highlands | Lin Anderson
4 posts | 3 read | 3 to read
'A real page-turner' Ian Rankin The Party House by Lin Anderson is a deeply atmospheric psychological thriller set in the Scottish Highlands, for fans of Lucy Foley and Ruth Ware. Devastated by a recent pandemic brought in by outsiders, the villagers of Blackrig in the Scottish Highlands are outraged when they find that the nearby estate plans to reopen its luxury party house to tourists. As animosity sparks in the community, a group of locals take action. By the end of the night, the house hot tub has been smashed to pieces and, in the ensuing chaos, the body of a young woman is found in the foundations. Seventeen-year-old Ailsa Cummings went missing five years ago, never to be seen again. Until now. The excavation of Ailsas remains reignites old suspicions towards the men of this small community, including Greg, the estates gamekeeper. He is loath to discuss old wounds, but Greg's new lover, Joanne, is frightened by his reaction to the missing girls discovery. Joanne begins to doubt how well she knows this new man in her life. Then again, hes not the only one with secrets in their volatile relationship . . . 'Lin's first standalone sees her expertly mix psychological thrills with a perplexing mystery simmering in a small community. It has all the ingredients of a hit to stand alongside her Rhona MacLeod series' Douglas Skelton, author of The Blood is Still

Started off being a real page turner, then it was way too drawn out and the tied up ending wasn‘t that satisfying.
Very modern setting. The years after the covid lockdown.

Bk2 of August & #Rushathon #readathon is done. This was a quick page turner,my first Lin Anderson & her only stand-alone I believe. Set in a small village in the Scottish Highlands, a country estate is hated by the villagers after the owners helicoptered in guests during the lockdown & caused the death of 5 children. When it‘s learnt they plan on opening it back up, some locals trash the hot tub only to find the body of a missing girl underneath.👇

Lizpixie Loved the setting & the characters, plot was a bit thin at times but still enjoyable. #BookspinBingo #ReadySetRead2023 1y

This weekends #BookMail starts with a book by an author that @Andrew65 has raved about for years! This is a standalone, thought I‘d start with that instead of her series, and coz it was on special at Waterstones A thriller set in the Scottish highlands during the pandemic, locals are outraged when the “party house”, a luxury airbnb, is reopened to tourists. When vandalism at the house occurs, the body of missing young girl is found in the wreckage.

Andrew65 Yes this a very enjoyable book, hope you enjoy it. I always seem to enjoy books set in Scotland. (edited) 2y
