Stories from the Vinyl Cafe
Stories from the Vinyl Cafe | Stuart McLean
7 posts | 4 read | 5 to read
Like an old friend who's turned up in town, Stuart McLean returns with "Stories from the Vinyl Cafe," his bestselling collection of tales based on his enormously popular Vinyl Cafe radio program. The collection features Canada's much-loved fictional family: Dave, Morley, Stephanie and Sam. Stories from the Vinyl Cafe also introduces a host of other wonderfully imagined characters, such as Margaret Dwyer, a suburban housewife who startles herself by shoplifting a pepperoni sausage, and Flora Perriton, who is consumed with thoughts of lost opportunities when an old friend passes away. Then there's Ed, who-overcome by the death of his favourite rock star-embarks on a pilgrimage to New York City to meet the singer's widow. As always, the stories in this rewarding and irreverent collection prove that Stuart McLean is indeed a national treasure.

This month is being crazy so I decided short stories wouldn‘t take too much commitment. These are stories based on a popular radio show, The Vinyl Cafe. It features ‘Canada‘s much-loved fictional family.‘ ❤️🤍

I stumbled across Volumes Book Cafe in Chicago and obviously had to check it out. I picked up a Blind Date with a Book. I cannot wait to open it when I get back home!

Is 1996 retro? I have all the Vinyl Cafe books - the left is one of the first and the original cover. Now they are all in the style on the right. The new covers are great but the originals feel so much more Vinyl-Cafe-y to me.

Speaking of #worldreadaloudday, I was devastated last night to learn of the passing of Canada's greatest storyteller, Stuart McLean. He showed Canadians that the coasts weren't so far apart, and that the folks in the middle were pretty much like us too. Small towns filled with big-hearted folks were broadcast to my childhood home and continued as I grew a family of my own. Go in peace Stuart. Your spirit will live on in story. #canlit
