The Tea Ladies
The Tea Ladies | Amanda Hampson

They keep everyone's secrets, until there's a murder... Sydney, 1965- After a chance encounter with a stranger, tea ladies Hazel, Betty and Irene become accidental sleuths, stumbling into a world of ruthless crooks and racketeers in search of a young woman believed to be in danger. In the meantime, Hazel's job at Empire Fashionwear is in jeopardy. The firm has turned out the same frocks and blouses for the past twenty years and when the mini-skirt bursts onto the scene, it rocks the rag trade to its foundations. War breaks out between departments and it falls to Hazel, the quiet diplomat, to broker peace and save the firm. When there is a murder in the building, the tea ladies draw on their wider network and put themselves in danger as they piece together clues that connect the murder to a nearby arson and a kidnapping. But if there's one thing tea ladies can handle, it's hot water. 'The Tea Ladies is a total joy! With her ear for dialogue and eye for authentic detail, Amanda Hampson has created a refreshing take on a murder mystery that is both wickedly funny and highly entertaining. Hazel, Betty, Irene and Merl leapt straight off the page and into my heart. I can still hear them laughing, gossiping and plotting, long after I finished this delightful book.' Joanna Nell

@CarolynM What a lovely surprise! I‘m having the birthday that keeps on giving. 😆

I‘m so excited to finally try a Dornford Yates as I know you‘re a fan and I‘ve had The Tea Ladies stacked since your review (it‘s not published here until next year).

The card (titled “Looking for Bookworms” 😆) is the best! Thank you so much, my friend, I love it all! 😘😘😘

Tamra So pretty! Hoping to find an audio version of the tagged novel - sounds fun! 1mo
CarolynM Hope you enjoy💕 1mo
CarolynM @Tamra It‘s on Audible in Australia and no indication it‘s exclusive so should be available in libraries once it‘s released in your territory 🙂 I just listened to the preview and it sounds good - nice characterisations. 1mo

Tamra @CarolynM 👏🏾🤞🏾 I flagged it in my library system to notify me when they receive it. 1mo
LeahBergen @CarolynM I so will! I was doing a bit of reading about Yates and see that he did both comic and thriller type novels. This seems to be one of the thrillers! 👏 4w
LeahBergen @Tamra I checked Audible Canada and it‘s available here; here‘s hoping you don‘t have to wait too long! 4w
CarolynM His “thrillers” are funnier than his “comic” novels if you ask me 😆 4w
LeahBergen @CarolynM Ha! Now I‘m even more excited! 😆 4w

Gentle. Took me right back to my teenage years growing up in the 60s. I'd forgotten about tea ladies with names like Hazel, Betty,Irene, Merl. Other reminders of the times, mini skirts, Jean Shrimpton, sponge cakes, butterfly cakes, The Moscow Circus, Xmas displays in David Jones windows and much more. Very Aussie . Loved it.

A delightful cosy mystery revolving around a group of tea ladies working in the rag trade in early 1960s Sydney. Lovely characters, some fun stuff about the fashions of the time and a satisfying mystery. I hope it becomes a series. #ozfiction
