The first book in Jean Plaidy's epic Plantagenet series. When William X dies, the duchy of Aquitaine is left to his fifteen-year-old daughter, Eleanor. But such a position for an unmarried woman puts the whole kingdom at risk. So on his deathbed William made a will that would ensure his daughter's protection: he promised her hand in marriage to the future King of France. Eleanor grows into a romantic and beautiful queen, but she has inherited the will of a king, and is determined to rule Aquitaine using her husband's power as King of France. Her resolve knows no limit and, in the years to follow she is to become one of history's most scandalous queens.

The Plantagenet Prelude follows Eleanor of Aquitaine and Henry II‘s tumultuous relationship and the start of the Plantagenet dynasty. I enjoyed some parts and the others I felt like I had to trudge through. I especially didn‘t like Henry II. He comes off as an entitled douche that has mantrums, cheats on Eleanor and then just kind of shrugs and basically tells her, “Too bad. I‘m the King of England. Deal with it cuz I don‘t love you anymore.”

Obviously my taste has changed a lot since my teens! Wasn‘t enjoying the writing....and disagreed with some of the factual assertions.....maybe I need to leave Plaidy in my teens 🤷‍♀️
As you can see I got to 7%..

Melissa_J I wasn‘t a huge fan of this one either, or the one that comes after. I have a few more of Plaidy‘s books on my TBR pile, but I since I wasn‘t overly impressed by the ones I‘ve read I doubt they‘ll move off my TBR any time soon! 6y

Old school historical re-read for me - but haven‘t read since my teens....see how it stands up now.
The series starts with Eleanor and Henry...what better start!
