The Slow Plague killed billions of women and girls worldwide. The gender-targeting infection without cure drove the remaining, sparce female population into an insane supply and demand situation in which they are treated as valuable commodities.Though their "market value" is high, paradoxically, women's rights take a nosedive as they have become more desirable than the most precious jewels. Women are objects avarice, awe, and worship - to be owned or won in high-stakes games.Kutri Chandigarh, one such "prize" and a rare beauty, is shipped from her native India to Los Angeles, a shattered metropolis barricaded behind a radiation-repelling wall. Within the city stronghold, a bleak, broken society comprised mostly of men is mesmerized by the stupefying programs pumped out by Little Angel Studios: an endless parade of reality TV shows. The studio's #1 hit is "Good Breeding", in which a bevy of ethnically "pure" young women compete to marry a chosen suitor and produce a family in the spotlight of the public eye.Like all women, Kutri has dreamed of wining the competition since her early childhood. But, when she arrives in LA and meets Jakob Freeman, her assigned matchmaker, the fantasy is turned on its head. It quickly twists into a horrific nightmare that extends far beyond Kutri and the man she chooses for herself. As Kutri tries to escape the fate she once coveted, Jakob is swept up in events that threaten him body and soul and spark memories of a past he has deliberately tried to forget.

3.5 stars. Dystopian fiction. Well written with great world building. It was very disturbing how women are treated in this society. Lots of double and triple crosses as people plot to overthrow the current government. At times it read a little slow and there were a lot of characters to keep track of. Overall this was an interesting book.
