It's Nancy Drew so it's a pick, but more like a pick with caveats. It absolutely shows it's age in a cringey way. The writing and detecting are sub-par when compared to earlier books.
And hey, I can claim #doublespin victory!
(I'm pretty sure that most of my my readalong participation will be finished in the last week of the month.
“The New Orleans girl now proudly said that the United States engineers had conquered the problem of floods for the city.
‘It used to be perfectly frightening when the whole river overflowed, and the levees broke.‘”
There are quite a few reasons this Nancy Drew book is problematic. This quote isn‘t really one of them but it‘s an interesting little historical note. Just sayin‘.
“Would a trip to the Mardi Gras interest you, Nancy, and also a mystery to solve?” Bess Marvin asked.

Not sure how I feel about a definite article in front of Mardi Gras.
Side note: Mardi Gras in Mobile AL is older and tamer. IMO it would be more Nancy Drew‘s speed.
Another mystery solved for #SeriesLove2023 and #14books14weeks 📚💛🔦

Nancy‘s at it again, solving a Mardi Gras mystery in NOLA! A supposedly haunted showboat deep in the bayou, a belle‘s fiancé who isn‘t what he seems, car thieves, road trips, and more - whew!
34 down for #nancydrewchallenge!
Not the best ND, with lots of racism, lower quality of writing, and lots of telling-not-showing for the wrap-up, but overall ok.
When I think of #girlfriends I immediately think of Nancy, George, and Bess.

#TBT After posting my Nancy Drew note cards for #augustphotochallenge, I started looking through my collection and discovered I'd inherited two of the covers featured on the cards from my older sisters. And when I pulled them out to have a look I discovered this article my mom sent me from The Ottawa Citizen back in 2005. #hiddentreasure #tuckedinsidebooks 🔎📚🎰
