The setup for this legal thriller was heartbreaking so I was quick to join Team Mike Brock defending the defenseless as a street lawyer against the big guys. …I love working down my thrifted John Grisham stack (top) and my read stack is finally bigger than my JG TBR.

marleed @Prairiegirl_reading No. No it is not! I realized a while back that without intention the majority of books I read, are intended for a female audience. It's good for me to change up my reading and include books where the gender of the reader is not necessarily female. 3y

Usual Grisham. Entertaining and interesting. There were a bit of audio trouble but it was a small nuisance. 😊

This audio book has some serious sound problems in the middle. The reader's voice cuts off and some other weird noice appears instead. First time I encountered this kind of problem. It goes on for a few minutes and then the reader returns. Hopefully I get to know how this book ends. The plot is really good. I'd hate to miss the conclusion.

Curiouser_and_curiouser Oh gosh, I'm the same sometimes. It's no wonder it takes me so long to get through a book. It never used to be like this, before devices were invented. 4y

Curiouser_and_curiouser @typhlax Sometimes, if I'm disciplined enough, I leave my phone in another room so I can read in peace, otherwise I'm constantly checking things on my phone as they come to my mind whilst I'm reading, eg: making lists, messaging people, checking Litsy, looking up authors or novels...etc... I can get quite carried away and completely forget about the book on my lap! 4y

Tripex @Curiouser_and_curiouser when I notice I've spent hours online sometimes I just make the sudden difficult decision to stay offline summoning all my will to face the novel. Difficult at times but always so so rewarding. 4y

This was much more slow paced than I expect from a John Grisham thriller and while there's nothing wrong with that, I was hoping for more of a high-stakes, run-for-your-life type of deal.

This didn't disappoint! I found I could relate to this on a personal level now that I've grown up and my career has evolved. Generally speaking, this is much more of a straight forward plot line than some of Grisham's other books, but it's very captivating. It also plays right into good-guys vs. bad-guys concept, but isn't that what all great stories are about?

What better way to start off my long weekend than going to bed early with a new (old) book? I devoured this the first time I read it and was hooked on Grisham afterwards. It'll be interesting to see if I feel the same now, 15 (!!!) or so years later.
