The Biology of Luck

Odd-job queen Starshine Hart is about to go on somebody elses perfect date. At 29, the usually carefree Starshine has realized that it is easier to start sleeping with a man than to stop. Her lovers include one of the last underground members of the Weathermen and the dilettante heir to a lawn chair magnate. Both men have staked their romantic future on her. Her only respite is her impending dinner with the nonthreatening but unattractive tour guide Larry Bloom. But Larry, too, has a stake in her future. He has written a book about their impending dinner in which he fantasizes about Starshines life on the day he wins her heart. Juxtaposing moments from Larrys guided tour of New York City on the June day of his dream date with excerpts from the novel in which he imagines Starshines concurrent escapades, this inventive structure weaves a highly imaginative love story across all five boroughs. Provocative, funny, and keenly observed, an imagined pilgrimage through the underbelly of Gotham becomes a bold new voice in contemporary American fiction.

Pickpick

So this was mostly a pick! I got frustrated by the m.c. Who acted like she was god's gift....then in the next to the last chapter almost everyone she knew including her two boyfriends and female roommate either proposes or declares undying love for her.... at this point I did start to feel for her. She says Larry (older guy she has friendzoned) will know what to do about this..continued

kricheal and also tells her on this night...her answer to him is yes and no. End of book. What? 7y
Reggie What? That independent movie ending- oh things are about to resolve- credits lol 7y
kricheal @Reggie I would've been like " you're pulling this nonsense in me Larry! I thought I made it very clear we were friends!" Basically everyone in her life thought they were having a different relationship with her including her roommate who she thought was her best friend. 7y
kricheal However I do recommend it though. It's gritty, and a great homage to NYC 7y

I LOVE ❤️ LOVE ❤️ LOVE THIS BOOK! It deserves all the attention it can get. It takes place all across NYC in a day; each borough is as much a character as the people. It's a love letter to NYC, as much as it's a love letter to the protagonist's object of affection. It's quirky; it's imaginative; and it's short so if you don't love it, you can get through it. But you WILL love it! So read this book!📚
