The world's greatest physicist, Johann Wilhelm Mobius, is in a madhouse, haunted by recurring visions of King Solomon. He is kept company by two other equally deluded scientists: one who thinks he is Einstein, another who believes he is Newton. It soon becomes evident, however, that these three are not as harmlessly lunatic as they appear. Are they, in fact, really mad? Or are they playing some murderous game, with the world as the stake? For Mobius has uncovered the mystery of the universe--and therefore the key to its destruction--and Einstein and Newton are vying for this secret that would enable them to rule the earth.

When you prepare your lessons with one edition and your students receive another edition… 🙈😤🙈
This definitely an interesting play about the hovering danger of an atomic bomb in the 70ies. I don‘t think it‘s funny, as it is declared a comedy, but definitely worth reading/watching. And unfortunately, it is quite up-to-dare again.

tpixie How frustrating to have two different additions, but it may also be interesting to compare and teach them about different translations. Right now I‘m reading Les Mis and comparing the different translations has been interesting. 3w
MariaW @tpixie The thing is I prepared my lessons with my edition. 🙈 And in that case language does not matter because it is the original. But I did check different translations, like you do now with Les Miserables, with the German translation of Pride & Prejudice and some of them were not good. 😤 3w

Dürrenmatt did write the 11th hour on the atomic clock directly into our memory - with satanic, ridiculous laughter.

Clare-Dragonfly Wow! I don‘t really understand what that means but it is certainly intense and evocative. 4w
MariaW @Clare-Dragonfly This play was written in the 70ies during Cold War and tries to make fun of the atomic bomb hanging over our heads like tge sword of Damocles back then. 3w

A reread after many years. Back then I read it for the fun. And the play still made me laugh, but now I also know about the backgrounds and still want to know more. There's so much more in this masterpiece than I've realized.

This book (play) was great! Funny and quite surprising. I can definitely see why it would be used in schools! (And considering how little German I know I‘m happy I finished it relatively quickly.) #24in48

My stack for #24in48 is mostly books I‘m already reading and wish to finish! Perhaps not super exciting... 1 and 3 are audiobooks.

Thank you @thewallflower0707 ! (She reads YA and got me who said no to YA, poor thing 😅) This IS a very mixed selection of books, 12 years a slave (for the horrible experiences), The Sandman (for horror), Die Physiker (German classic), Eat Pray Love (normal novel of the type I don‘t usually read) - I will read them all, starting with DP😊 Awesome candy selection! The wrapping was really cool too, I‘ve kept part of it to decorate around my office!

buecherwurm We read Die Physiker at my school I guess in class 7 or 8. I remember it as one of those school books that I liked and managed to read faster than anyone else but only were able to fully appreciate it after we discussed it in class. I actually guess that as an adult it must be even better because there will be things which are just easier to understand now. Hope you have fun reading it! 7y
