1. Loads! But my favorites are probably “Goat Song” by Brad Kessler (tagged) and “Cooked” by Michael Pollan.
2. Expensive and snobby artisanal aged cheeses. Wild mushrooms. Tollhouse cookie dough from a plastic tub.
3. Raisins. Curse them.
4. Sorry to be unoriginal, but I loooove fall foods and I like cooking and sharing food, so definitely Thanksgiving. (and I don‘t even eat turkey!)

This is where my desire to keep goats started. Kessler describes his journey into the world of goats and cheese so poetically that it is hard not to yearn for that life. Honestly, I'm hesitant to reread it now in fear that I might go out and get a new fury friend.

I stumbled on this book by accident browsing at a used bookstore (Walden Pond Books shout-out #getindie). It is way up my ally as my long-term goal is to open a goat dairy. Great find! The book chronicles the author's first year goating. The author combines his experiences with discussions on history, literature, art, and anthropology relating to goats, herding, cheesemaking, and pastoralism. It's really well written, and interesting.

Herding songs update: I have been playing herding songs on the internet to lure my cat out of the cubby she likes to sleep in so I can give her her pill. My experiments on her have had good results. Is my cat secretly a goat?

I have this experience almost every time I travel home. Bring homemade jam to my family, bring back maple syrup. TSA never has the decency to recap and put things back and I loathe them to death for it. It's like they hire a group of toddlers to rummage through suitcases...

I am so glad I am not the only one who habitually sings to my animals. The author even makes it sound like this isn't a shameful act. I wonder if my neighbors who share my walls agree.

"Kulning" is the word for herding songs used in some parts of Norway to call the goats back to the village. I have numerous herding songs for my cat that I believe are effective, although probably less charming.

The muscles used for kneading bread are the same muscles you use for milking goats. Being that I make my own bread, and goats are in my future, I'm going to have some very muscular hands. OR terrible arthritis.

Just stumbled on this book in the used bookstore about someone who fled the city for Vermont to go raise goats and make cheese. Something I've also been trying to do, kind of perfect.
