I blame @RealLifeReading ! Saw this on Goodreads as an update from Sharlene, ordered it from the library and it came in fast. I have A LOT of books going right now and did not need another one but I took a look last night, thinking I'd read a quick chapter...and here I am almost 50 pages in. 😉

Brilliant memoir. Read Daddy Was a Numbers Runner by Louise Meriwether as well if you haven't.

What a jewel. I do not as a rule do well with books in the present tense but I was compelled through this book in three days. Amazing work.

Yesterday was my birthday. The pendant is from my husband and the book is from my daughter. My daughter lives in a Sufi community in Eastern NY founded by the nephew of Noor Inayat Khan.

Labor Day beach read

This was fun: I found a friend of mine listed in the acknowledgements of my book.

So, a number of years ago I read a book by a Czech author. I responded to a prompt on Facebook from the library with the name and the author. A few days later the translator friended me. Now I've read several books translated by him. Here is the latest.

Seriously, I do feel guilty that my librarian friends don't have time to read ARCs and give them to me. I gasped audibly when I opened the box and saw this. I loved every word of it.

Celebrated the hell out of #Independentbookstoreday at Odyssey Bookshop.

The author says in the preface that this is the first in depth biography of Burgess because so little material has survived. This is apparent when a whole paragraph is devoted to how great the drains were at Burgess's first boarding school.

So, I'm planning to go see Kate Hennessey speak about her new book about her grandmother Dorothy Day, The World Will Be Saved By Beauty tomorrow. I'm listening to it on Audible and obviously can't have her sign my iPod. And obviously I have to have her sign something so I trekked off to the local Trappist abbey which has a store to find Hold Nothing Back. Found some other books too. I'm not even a little bit Catholic.
