How do you describe a family? The definition has changed so much in the past few decades. Had it been as it is now, so much pain could have been saved for so many families. As it is now, there is still too much pain inflicted. This novel is about tolerance and reconciliation. And hope. We can become our better angels. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Time-slip in the more recent past, the early 1980s and today, with the prospects belonging to parents and their child in the midst of the gay rights movement or blockage when it came to the judicial system deciding if it would interfere with the way they raise their children. The truth often does come out when one of the secret keepers is giving a health timeline and sets into motion the acts and conversations that begin to lead to healing.

A very moving story of three people in a family, a mom, a dad, a daughter. Rotating between the early 80s and the early 2020s, we follow the lives of these three people as they become who are they are going to become through circumstances they can‘t control. So realistic it almost reads as a memoir written by these three characters. Life has really changed since the 80s and it had better stay changed, equality for everyone.

Loved it! It was a really sad story, beautifully written.

I was not prepared for how emotionally devastating I‘d find this dual timeline family drama.

Oh, wow. I wasn‘t expecting the impact this story had on my heart. I didn‘t connect immediately and put it down for another book. I came back to it deciding to give it an hour then stayed it one spot reading until I was done. This is such a good read for Pride Month. I was essentially adulting in both timelines (1982 & 2022). Gosh, we cannot allow intolerance to take us back again.

As heartbreaking as this story was, I loved everything about this book!

The ending was perfect. The story was told with such care that I kept thinking about it when I was not reading it.

I‘ve been so intrigued about this one and I‘m on a book hangover after finishing my last book where nothing seemed appealing… So, I‘m going to try to start and finish this ARC before it releases in the US on Tuesday! #arc

In the more recent storyline, Heron is trying to figure out how to tell his daughter Maggie about the bad news the doctor has just delivered.

In 1982, Heron, Dawn and Maggie are a family, until Dawn meets someone new….

Once I started I couldn‘t put it down. 💛
