And the short list for Nonfiction is out! What does everyone think? I know a few didn't enjoy Cherry's book, I DNF'd What the Wild Sea Can Be but might try it again.

I think the winner will be down to the Heart or the Hare.

I still have some reading to do here... most of them actually.
#WPNF25

TheKidUpstairs I loved Cherry's book, so I'm happy to see it here. I also DNF-ed Wild Seas, but I'm pretty sure that was just my mood. I've got a new hold on it. Raising Hare is next up for me. Story of a Heart tops my list (of what I've read so far) so I'm really glad it's been shortlisted. 2d
Hooked_on_books Other than Neneh, I think this is a great shortlist! I still have 4 more to read from the longlist, which I will do, but I‘ve read all these. 2d
AnneCecilie I‘m so happy Raising Hare made it, I loved that book. Private Revolutions though me so much about a culture I knew nothing about 2d

squirrelbrain @TheKidUpstairs - Story of a Heart is my favourite too. I think this is a great shortlist, from a wonderful longlist. 2d
Bookwormjillk I really liked the audiobook for What The Wild Sea Can Be 2d
fredthemoose I love the shortlist because it‘s all the books I‘ve read! I‘m part way through Zo and haven‘t started Wild Sea. Really enjoyed Raising Hare, but Story of a Heart will be tough to dethrone from its spot as my favorite. 2d
Chelsea.Poole I‘ve read three, and I will still read two of the others for this list. But I‘m sticking to my plan to skip Heart. I‘m looking forward to Sea (which is actually a book I‘m going to be presenting later this year to a literary club!) and also hope to get to Agent Zo soon. 2d
TheKidUpstairs @squirrelbrain it really was such a strong list! I plan to continue reading from it as more titles come out this side of the pond! 1d

The Women‘s Prize for Nonfiction was just announced.

I‘m actually quite happy about this list

I loved Raising Hare, I enjoyed Private Revolutions

I have What the Wild Sea Can Be out from the library

And I‘m on the wait list for A Thousand Threads

What do you make of this list?

ChaoticMissAdventures I think it is a good list! They still are not going to make me read that book about the children and heart transplants (my heart cannot handle it this year) but I think this list is an interesting mix. I know Cherry's books has been a bit divisive on Litsy but I thought it was good. 2d
youneverarrived I‘m happy Neneh Cherry‘s memoir made it to the shortlist- the only 5 star read from what I‘ve read on the list so far 💕 What the Wild Sea Can Be I‘m glad is on there too, hopefully more people will read it. I won‘t read The Story of a Heart 💔 but Private Revolutions I‘m reading and loving. Agent Zo I‘ll be reading next. 2d
squirrelbrain I‘m really pleased with the list - they definitely picked some of the best out of a fabulous list. 2d

Here‘s my #wpnf list, in some kind of order. I‘ve read them all, nearly! (1/3 of Wild Thing and 1/4 of Tracker).

I have a definite top 5, the top line, shown in order. Then, any of the second row could be book 6, again these are in approx order but I‘m still a bit torn between PR and Agent Zo.

Much as I loved Neneh‘s book, I don‘t think it should make the shortlist - it‘s a fairly ‘standard‘ memoir, not like Babylon last year. ⬇️

squirrelbrain Therefore I‘m going to sub in Ootlin as what I think *should* be on the list, because (a) it‘s another memoir and (b) I think it‘s a very important read. 5d
ChaoticMissAdventures Ohhh Babylon what a fantastic book that was. I have been surprised at the reactions to Cherry's book. Lots of people really loving it but then lots DNF'ing and not enjoying. 5d

My “I must read every book from the Women‘s Prize lists but several aren‘t available in the US” Blackwell‘s order is here! 🥳 I‘m so much further along with the NF list, so I‘m hoping to get at least one or two more of them read before the shortlist comes out next week. Thus, I‘m leaning toward The Peepshow as my first read from this stack, though I‘m super interested in Tracker as well.

ChaoticMissAdventures I really need to tackle the NF I ordered but I started this one yesterday 1w
LeeRHarry Will be interested to hear your thoughts on Tracker. 😊 1w
TrishB Enjoy! That‘s a fine looking stack. 1w

One week until the shortlist drops!!

Any you are hoping to see?

I am struggling to get things from the library off this list, but I hope the ones I bought are here - Private Revolutions, Tracker, Peepshow. Them being on the shortlist might push me to read them!

The online website is still struggling so my list for people to tag isn't coming up sorry about that!

squirrelbrain I‘m halfway through number 14, and going to start 15 & 16 this week, so I‘ve at least read some of all of them. I have a top 5 (Heart, Hare, Peepshow, Sister-in-Law and Neneh) and quite a few vying for the 6th place. 1w
AnneCecilie I haven‘t managed to get to as many as I hoped either. I‘ve read two. I‘m listening to a third now. I loved Raising Hare and hope to see it on the list. I‘m amazed by how many you have read @squirrelbrain (edited) 1w
ChaoticMissAdventures @squirrelbrain great job!! As soon as I am done with the fiction list I am reading Peepshow, even if it doesn't make the shortlist. So many books and all that. 1w

squirrelbrain I‘m liking the NF list better than the fiction list at the moment! 😲 @AnneCecilie @ChaoticMissAdventures 1w
Hooked_on_books I‘ve read 10 and would frankly by happy to see any of them, other than Neneh, on the shortlist (that one was a dud for me). I loved Raising Hare and Agent Zo. Sister in Law is a banger, too. It‘s such a good list! (Helen, you‘re an overachiever! @squirrelbrain ) 1w
ChaoticMissAdventures @Hooked_on_books it does seem to be an exceptionally good NF list this year!! 1w
youneverarrived Neneh and Paul Gauguin from the ones I‘ve read. 1w

The #WPNF25 nonfiction list has taken a total back seat to the fiction prize for me, but I do have Wild Sea, and Cherry's autobiography checked out from the library so I will be reading one of those as I wait for more fiction books to arrive in the mail.

So far I have read 2 - Autocracy and Fish. How is everyone else doing?

squirrelbrain You‘re gonna hate me 🤣 - I just finished book 11 from the list! 🤪 3w
BarbaraBB You‘re incredible @squirrelbrain , especially when I think of those working hours of yours!! 3w
BarbaraBB I have placed my first orders from the fiction list. I am more drawn to the International Booker longlist this year but will definitely read the fiction list too. 3w

ChaoticMissAdventures @squirrelbrain wow!! Any real standouts? Do you have a winner in mind? 3w
squirrelbrain You know me @BarbaraBB - bit of a speed-reader! 🤪 3w
squirrelbrain My top 5 so far are: Story of a Heart, Sister in Law, Neneh Cherry, Peepshow and Raising Hare. 3w
fredthemoose Wow, @squirrelbrain ! I‘m on book 4. Really liked Story of a Heart and Raising Hare and am enjoying Private Revolutions. Will probably bail on Neneh Cherry (I generally like memoir but I‘m just not drawn into this one). I‘ll probably read a few more, but may not get them all. 3w
Chelsea.Poole Really enjoying this longlist! I‘ve read six and at the beginning of my seventh which is 2w
ChaoticMissAdventures @Chelsea.Poole I am finishing this one today! It is quite a quick read, she is a good storyteller and moves the book along 2w

A little over a day before the big Fiction Long List drops!!

How have you done on the NF list? I know some are plowing through this like true bookworms! I have been very distracted by books I need to get back to the library, or ARCs that are going to disappear soon. So I have only read 2 of the non-fiction, but I do plan on reading most all of these no matter the short list.

Hooked_on_books I have read 7 (dnf‘d Neneh halfway, but I count that), and have my paws on 4 others. I like my progress! 4w
squirrelbrain I‘ve read8, hibernated 1 and reading 3 more right now! 🤪 I think @Hooked_on_books and I may be those bookworms that you refer to! 🤣 (edited) 4w

ChaoticMissAdventures @Hooked_on_books @squirrelbrain you two were exactly who I was thinking about 😂 ❤️ 4w

It has only been a couple of days since the announcement but have your read any yet? In the process? Waiting for any to come in via bookshop or library?

Which are you most excited to get to?

I read Fish Don't Exist before the list dropped, and have picked up Private Revolutions to get started next.

#WPNF25

ChaoticMissAdventures @AnneCecilie I am terrible at tagging, let me know if you want to be tagged or untagged! We have so little time before the fiction list drops! 1mo
TheKidUpstairs I'm listening to A Thousand Threads, it's so good! 1mo
fredthemoose I‘m trying to get through some more #ToB25 books in the next couple of weeks but these are up next! 1mo

squirrelbrain I picked 3 up from the library on Friday, with another 4 now ready to collect on Monday. 🤦‍♀️ I‘ve read one of those (Peepshow) and nearly finished Sister in Law. I also listened to Autocracy Inc, which is short, and started Neneh on audio too. Loving them all so far! 1mo
ChaoticMissAdventures @TheKidUpstairs yay! I was realizing who she was yesterday and listening to her music again. This one is in transit to me from the library, but we have had 2 days of snow and my city shuts down the second it sees a flake, so not sure when it will get to me lol 1mo
squirrelbrain I listened to a couple of hours of A Thousand Threads @TheKidUpstairs - it‘s SO good! 1mo
ChaoticMissAdventures @squirrelbrain you are crushing it! I am behind... trying to finish some other things before really diving in. but hoping to get going this next week. 1mo
TheKidUpstairs @squirrelbrain right?! Glad you're loving it, too. Her voice is so lovely, I could listen to her read anything! Of you haven't yet, you should look up her mother's art, it's so beautiful and joyfully colourful 1mo
Suet624 Sadly, I haven‘t read any of them. I‘m also trying to commit myself to not go to the library or buy new books until I get some off my shelf. I‘m quite sure I‘ll break this commitment but for now that‘s where I‘m at. 1mo
TheKidUpstairs @ChaoticMissAdventures I only knew Buffalo Stance going in, but it's such a good book, very accessible to fans and non-fans alike. 1mo
ChaoticMissAdventures @Suet624 I feel ya! I am overwhelmed. But overwhelmed with books is not always a bad thing! trying to pepper some in but also read things that have been lingering around here too.
1mo
Suet624 I completely agree with you and I 100% know that I will eventually start searching for the books on this list. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I just have hundreds of books that are glaring at me and I want to free up some space. 1mo
squirrelbrain @Suet624 @ChaoticMissAdventures - I‘m a bit overwhelmed too. I *really* wasn‘t going to read this list as I‘m still reading #ToB and trying to keep up with my ARCs. Goodness knows what will happen when the fiction list comes out - I may explode! 🤪 1mo
squirrelbrain I‘ll check it out! @TheKidUpstairs 1mo
Jas16 I think I am going to have to wait for the fiction list. Much like @Suet624 I am having a hard time staying reasonably on top of all of the books I have on my shelves. I am enjoying everyone‘s reviews so much though 1mo
AnneCecilie Please tag me. And I‘ve started Raising Hare, a book I had been eyeing before the Longlist so that was the final Paul to buy it 1mo
ChaoticMissAdventures @AnneCecilie I am interested in everyone's reviews of Raising Hare. I am scared it is going to be really sad and I am not sure I can handle it! 1mo
Hooked_on_books I‘m in the same spot as before. Already read Fish and am currently reading PR. I already had the Nagle on audio and picked up the audios of the Castor and Wistrich from Libro but haven‘t started them yet. 1mo
Chelsea.Poole I‘ve read 3 now. My next read from the list will be Private Revolutions. Just finished this and I‘m sad/mad/ready to give it to everyone to read: 1mo
TheKidUpstairs And I just got an email that Private Revolutions, What the Wild Sea Can Be, and Story of a Heart area all waiting for me. And I've got a copy of What Fish Don't Exist that I'm just starting. And I said I wasn't going to read the long list 🤣🤣🤣 1mo
