Slayers, Every One of Us
Slayers, Every One of Us: How One Girl in All the World Showed Us How to Hold On | Kristin Russo, Jenny Owen Youngs
5 posts | 3 read | 1 reading
A memoir reflecting on heartbreak, perseverance, and life lessons learned from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, from the hosts of the hit podcast Buffering the Vampire Slayer. Kristin and Jennys marriage started with an ultimatum: to further their relationship, Kristin must watch Jenny's favorite show, Buffy the Vampire Slayer. With the terms set, they began a journey that has led them through seven seasons of the beloved genre show, a podcast rewatching the series with their newly minted listenership of Scoobies, unexpected success, and a divorce. Through it all, their love for Buffy and their commitment to their community held them together against the odds. Slayers, Every One of Us is the story of how two queer women navigated divorce on a very public level and managed to stay in each others lives through it all. While chock full of Buffy (and Buffering!) content for true fans, this is ultimately a memoir of queer love and chosen family. It's a heartwarming story for anyone who's experienced lost love, and a roadmap for staying close with your ex.

Mehso-so

Indicative of my meh attitude that I forgot to take a pic of this book before donating it. Very readable but ultimately superficial. This book wouldn't make sense to anyone who wasn't already familiar with Buffy and Kristin/Jenny as minor celesbians. It doesn't have enough compelling commentary on Buffy and their story -- they got divorced while making a podcast together and kept doing so -- isn't written in a super compelling way either. 🤷‍♀️

Been a minute since I read a physical book, but I got this one as a gift and am working through it slowly.

Eyelit @monalyisha @jackilynn I really liked it! Definitely a book for fans of the podcast and tv show who want a little more insight on the podcast creators. I also listened to the audiobook and recommend that slightly more 4mo

Bailedbailed

This one is for fans of the podcast Buffering the Vampire Slayer, which I've never heard. Bailed a few chapters in because I was hoping for more Buffy crit but this is more a memoir of the hosts.

That's not to say this is bad, I'm just not the audience for it.
