Remember how about two weeks ago I was chastising myself for not sticking to my 2-out-1-in rule? I continue to throw the rules in my own face.
This novel feels like two separate books. In the first half Julie Chan semi-inadvertently steals her dead influencer twin‘s identity. It was absurd, but I was keen to see how/if she‘d get her comeuppance. The second half was more of a closed door thriller (with a possible dash of inspo from Awad‘s Bunny) and much less of a compelling read. #netgalley - thank you!
I‘m such a sucker for twin stories, so gobbled this one up in one sitting! Julie & her twin sister Chloe were raised apart after their parents‘ death. Adopted by a wealthy NYC couple, Chloe is an influencer while Julie struggled with being raised by their aunt, has worked in her upstate grocery store for almost a decade & tries to avoid seeing her quasi-famous twin online. This debut only starts here before Julie learns more about her twin‘s life!
Twins Julie and Chloe are separated quite young after their parents die. Now, Chloe is a trending influencer and Julie is at a dead end. Then Julie finds Chloe dead and finds herself slipping into Chloe‘s life. I really enjoyed this. It has a good tone and veers into camp (but it works) while providing social commentary on social media.
I started reading this one with a lot of expectations, since it has been listed as an anticipated release this year (that should‘ve been my first red flag…). The story was engaging for about 50%, but then it took a whole different turn (not for the better, IMO).
It became predictable, which in turn made it boring for me.
This being the author‘s first novel makes it a great effort and I will read her future work.

I wanted to read something a little less heavy than my normal reads and this is proving to be a good choice! #arc
Independent Book Store Day means a short drive to St Mary‘s to my favourite wee shop to buy myself some essentials 🤣🤣🤣 here‘s hoping Camp Litsy chooses Julie Chan to read and if we don‘t I will go back and buy the others #independentbookstoreday #booklover
