Bed and Breakup
Bed and Breakup: A Novel | Susie Dumond
4 posts | 1 read
Two exes reunite to fix up and sell the vacant bed and breakfast that destroyed their marriage. Can they find a way to give the antique innand themselvesa better future? As newlyweds, Molly and Robin made the Hummingbird Inn into a trendy destination for queer travelers in the quirky mountain town of Eureka Springs, Arkansas. But when their career ambitions drove them apart, the young couple separated, handed over the propertys upkeep to a management firm, and never looked back. Seven years later, Molly and Robin return to the Hummingbird Inn for very different reasons. Molly is an artist on the rise who's been commissioned to create pieces in Eureka Springs; Robin is a celebrity chef whose restaurants have gone belly up. Both feel entitled to their shared property, furious that the other refuses to leave, and resort to a series of escalating pranks in the hopes of scaring the other off. When neither woman budges, they resolve to renovate the bed and breakfast, sell it, and at last go their separate ways. But their work to restore the inns vintage charm reignites memoriesand chemistrythat make it hard to say goodbye. Tender, charming, and heartwarming, Bed and Breakup is a small-town lovers-to-enemies-to-lovers romance that explores how some dreams, no matter how dusty or broken, deserve a second chance.

Pickpick

4/5

Molly and Robin are both hoping to stay in the Bed and Breakfast they ran together before they split up, but they certainly weren't hoping to stay there with each other. Now they have a chance to find some closure, actually get divorced, and sell their B&B.

Parts of the romance felt a little rushed, but I enjoyed the bed and breakfast setting, and I thought the book really brought Eureka Springs to life on the page.

IF YOU‘D TOLD ME AT any point in the past seven years that I‘d wind up back in Eureka Springs, I‘d have laughed in your face. There are far too many ghosts in that town—not just the “real” ones tourists pay to hear about, but personal ones too.

Oliver_Rose Is bed and breakup a romantic one? 4w
Zuhkeeyah How is Firebird? I‘m obsessed with the cover and sprayed edges of the hardcover edition. 4w
sebrittainclark @Oliver_Rose Yes, it's a romance. 4w
sebrittainclark @Zuhkeeyah It is an incredible cover, but I ended up DNF-ing it. The relationship dynamic/power imbalance between the main characters was just too off-putting for me. 4w
Zuhkeeyah @sebrittainclark Bummer. I did a test run of the first chapter at the store and didn't love it 😕 4w
