Breaking News: Sex, Lies and the Murdoch Succession | Paul Barry
6 posts | 1 read
Murdoch's empire is declining, none of his children are both able and willing to take over, and scandal wracks his life, yet he still manages to thrive despite it all. This is the definitive account of Rupert Murdoch's empirenow in paperback. Now in his 80s, Rupert Murdoch is gearing up for the toughest challenge of his life: to hand his empire over to his children. But is this the end of the Murdoch dynasty? Lachlan doesn't want to succeed him. James is in disgrace. And Elisabeth is not a serious contender. His grip on the group has also been weakened by scandal. His British tabloids have been caught hacking phones and bribing officials on an industrial scale. At least 20 journalists have been accused of hacking and corruption. But Rupert thrives on crisis. He has recently split News Corp in two, doubled his fortune to nine billion, and is bouncing around like a man in his prime. So can he win this one last battle and keep it all in the family?

#LibraryThing has created a Facebook page for us all to share our thoughts and ideas with them while they also share theirs.

Several Littens are joining per MINUTE, and the conversations are extraordinary. Then again, we're Littens, we're all awesome!!!

https://www.facebook.com/groups/OnwardLitsy/

Andrew65 I do not have a Facebook Account. I do feel it‘s a shame they are not hosting the conversation on Litsy! 😳😬 7y
DGRachel @Andrew65 There are LibraryThing staff members on Litsy who are also monitoring and responding to comments left on this platform, so that‘s good. 7y
kgriffith @Andrew65 please do comment on our post, tag me in any suggestions or questions you have, or email litsy@LibraryThing.com — we couldn‘t have the kind of in-depth two-way conversation Littens deserve and we want to encourage, on the native platform as it exists right now. I know that that doesn‘t solve your not being able to read and participate on fb, and for that I do sympathize! 7y

Jess7 I commented on there. Hoping for the best! 7y
Andrew65 @kgriffith Thanks 👍😊❤️ 7y
Andrew65 @DGRachel Thanks for letting me know 😊👍 (edited) 7y
Andrew65 @kgriffith I am a member of Librarything and do run two groups on there. I admire Tim‘s book enthusiasm and his commitment not to sell out to others. Not forgiven Amazon for killing off a great website in Shelfari. But to be fair to Tim he did offer a free sign up to us that came across from Shelfari. One thing I would love, that Shelfari did brilliantly was the nested conversations. (edited) 7y
Kaye Just putting in my 2 cents, which is probably what it‘s worth. I don‘t do the Facebook thing or Twitter. I‘ve checked out LT before, and not overly impressed. I believe I‘ll just stick with Litsy . I just got the LT app to see what‘s going on, since I don‘t have the other platforms mentioned. I don‘t like a lot of drama ,and not overly thrilled by some of the posters in the TALK area.... I‘m staying where I am .No interest in LT, Facebook, Twitter (edited) 7y
melissajayne The discussion in the group has honestly gotten out of hand, especially when related to book versus non book related posts. (edited) 7y
Melissa_J @Andrew65 I‘m not on FB either and would much prefer that the main discussion on Litsy‘s future be available here and not on FB. Needless to say I‘m happy the posts on here are being monitored. I think posts about Litsy on Litsy should take precedence over posts about Litsy on FB, especially as one doesn‘t need to be an actual Litsy user to post on FB. 7y
Andrew65 @Melissa_J Couldn‘t agree more. Only seems sensible that discussions about Litsy‘s future should be on Litsy! 👏👏👏👏 Let‘s hope we‘re not witnessing Shelfari 2! 7y
Andrew65 @Melissa_J By carrying it out on Facebook members of Litsy are excluded! 😔 7y
Melissa_J @Andrew65 Shelfari version 2 is my big fear. I love it here, and while some small improvements would be helpful (like the idea of linking LT‘s database to Litsy‘s), overall I like the app just the way it is. I do feel better that the acquisition is in LT‘s hands rather than another company, but given what we went through on Shelfari I can‘t help but be a little worried. 7y
Andrew65 @Melissa_J Agreed, we have already lost one site we loved. Cannot go through that loss again! Better with Librarything than a conglomerate, but interesting not proving popular move with some Librarything members. 7y
Heatherfeather So what about those of us not on Facebook? 7y
JessBerk Are we going to lose our book lists?? 7y
