This classic TL is about a beautiful girl with long blonde hair who is stuck in a tower far far away. How does she live, can she leave? You‘ll have to read and find out.. This would make a great AS because Zelinsky is known for his classic tales. #ucflae3414su20

bsiqueira https://www.teachervision.com/rapunzel-literature-guide This resource is perfect for a vocabulary because it implements such great words. The UDL strategy that would work is 2.5 “illustrate though multiple media” Followed by ESOL #4 Link lesson to students prior knowledge which works beautifully when it comes to children‘s literature. 4y
JessicaO Hi, Bianca! I actually had a fun time looking and figuring out the right books to use for TL. Your description is cute and quick to grab people‘s attention! I like that you focused on vocabulary because I looked at your resource and they will definitely need to have the background knowledge set in before the reading starts! Thank you for sharing:) 4y
DrSpalding I agree with an author study here. He is a multiaward winner for his amazing oil paintings that complement the traditional literature titles. Excellent resource. Anytime you can find a resource that assists with vocabulary, this will aid comprehension. 4y

This TL would be a great S to the class. Most of the students know the story or have seen the Disney version of the story. This would help with background knowledge when introducing this version. I would have the students pick a pivotal scene that makes a difference to the story and then draw it out. If they can draw it and perhaps write a couple of sentences to explain it, this would provide comprehension.

Rapunzel is a TL written and illustrated by Paul O. Zelensky which is a classic about how a beautiful girl with long golden hair is kept imprisoned in a lonely tower by a sorceress. This book could be a great addition for an author study because Paul O. Zelensky has written many TL books. The book also won a golden Caldecott Medal because Zelensky use oil paintings to create the illustrations.

AlyssaB An UDL strategy would be 2.5 to illustrate through multiple media. An ESOL strategy would be 4 link lesson topic to students prior knowledge. A resource would be https://www.teachervision.com/rapunzel-literature-guide which gives you a introduction, vocabulary, discussion questions and extension activities. #UCFLAE3414F19 4y
DrSpalding Another classic tale by Zelinsky. Excellent resource and helpful universal design and English learner strategies. EL number four works beautifully with traditional literature as many students have heard the stories beginning in pre-K. (edited) 4y

This book would be great for an older elementary group of children. There are some dark moments, but it‘s a very interesting read and a very unique take on Rapunzel.

Fables
The illustrations in this story are amazingly beautiful. It looks like a renaissance painting since it has so much detail. It respects the tradition of the story while also creating an artists vision. This story has some dark and intense parts for young children so parents could gloss over some moments easily.

The book Rapunzel by Paul ZelinskyI was very emotional. Definitely not a read for young children. But also it had a happy ending which made it a really cute book. I probably would recommend this book to 3rd grade and up. The illustrations were amazing as well.

My favorite part of this story is the gorgeous illustrations. And also i liked that it wasn‘t just the traditional version we all know. Like how rapunzel was a herb growing in a sorcerers garden and that‘s how she got her name.

This Caldecott award winning retelling of Rapunzel by Paul Zelensky was published in 1997. There‘s a little snippet in the back of the book that describes how he chose to tell this version and he said he wanted to choose all the most magical and interesting parts of other versions he had read or heard. He accompanies the tale with gorgeous Italian Renaissance like illustrations that bring the story to life.

This is a fabulous fairytale and fable story with beautiful illustrations. I think this book is good for all young ages and would keep the children's attention the whole time. I would read this to my classroom when learning about fairytales and fables.

I love this story, and it is one of my favorite books/movies. This book is about a man and woman who are expecting a child, but the wife is plagued by a craving for an herb that grows in a garden. The husband goes to get her some from next door and gets caught by a sorceress. To save his own life, the sorceress wants the newborn child as her own when she comes. Then follows the well-known story of Rapunzel in a tower and how a prince saves her.

“Your singing was so beautiful,” the prince told her,” that I knew I must see your face, or my heart could have no peace.” I love this quote because rapunzel and her knight were finally together after hearing her sing.

I am always fascinated by retellings of old fairy tales. I think this story would be great when studying classic stories like this one. There are many scenes, for example, that are in this book which are left out of the Disney version.
