Mehso-so

The overall concept is intriguing, how Liz‘s dreams are visions of the future & you can figure out what she‘s seeing, & how this ability makes her almost a mythic figure among the others. But I felt like the story suffered from too many POVs; for me, would‘ve preferred we were only w/Liz & just encountering the other characters along the way with her. Also “saying” the n-word sooo many times in my head def made me uneasy (as well it should) 3/5 ⭐️

I read The Good Lord Bird by this author a couple years ago and loved it, about time I tried another from him. I started it earlier today and just a TW/CN for anyone thinking about reading it: a dog is killed like 4 pages in. BUT..........the context matters. But just FYI. #nowreading

I don't know why this book has lingered on my shelves for 10 years but it's so beautifully written.

This book had been on my Goodreads to read shells for 10 years on November 22. Hoping you finish it before than.

I had to look up Cuban hunting dog otherwise known as Dogo Cubano. It was a breed that was preferred by slave owners and it went extinct sometime after the end of slavery.

Pickpick

I've been super picky and judgey about books lately, but I loved this one. Even though it broke my heart. The end is beautiful, and not what I expected at all. Now excuse me while I wake up my passed-out dog so he can comfort me 💔

McBride fills the pages with suspense, mystery, drama, and eventually action unfolding the perfectly controlled plot.
Liz Spocott (known as the Dreamer) escapes along with 14 other slaves from slave trader Patty Cannon, setting loose a chain of events in the Chesapeake area that will resonate through history in a surprising and beautiful way.
If you couldn't put down The Underground Railroad, you MUST read this book!

This book. 🙌
I'm 50 pages in and don't want to stop (but I have to go and be a productive member of society 😒)
A book about runaway slave Liz Spocott that they begin to call The Dreamer (you find out the reason quickly). It already has drama, suspense, and mystery.
I could definitely see some Underground Railroad comparisons being made but this book was published back in 2008.
Beautiful, descriptive writing!

These holds were waiting for me after my girl's story time at the library this morning 🎉
I'd never heard of James McBride until I watched a documentary on Harper Lee. I researched his books afterward and am excited to read this!
