Pickpick

Classics in the literature of HIV/AIDS and gay life in NYC during the 1980s. These are heartbreaking and highly emotional plays. I‘ve had them on my shelf forever and am glad I used them for the #booked2022 #aboutHIVAIDS prompt. Kramer is semi-autobiographical, especially in Destiny, which I wish I‘d read first. Happy 81st Birthday to author/activist/hero/all-american crank, Larry Kramer! Kramer is one of those guys who epitomizes the true New York spirit - tough, uncompromising, but with a big heart and a profound desire to set things right. And The Normal Heart is a masterpiece of activist theater/literature, and a profound reminder of the consequences of prejudice. #bookishbirthdays

shawnmooney I would probably emphasize the "crank" part most of all in your lovely description, but he certainly is a giant in gay culture. I met him at a queer lit conference in the early 1990s. I will never forget it. He was impetuous, brilliant, snarky, infuriating, rude, and really and truly fascinating. And, he thought I was cute ;) 9y
Notafraidofwords I read the play and watched the movie. I encourage everyone to check it out! 9y
