This fairytale retelling done by Jenni James tells the story of The Frog Prince within beautiful illustrations. The prince hides his true identity in order to find out more about Princess Blythe the princess he has been betrothed too since he was just an infant. He wanted to disguise himself in order to learn about her without showing his true self.

Pickpick

The frog prince is a fairytale retelling by Jenni James. He spent his entire life trying to be something he‘s not in order to hide his flaws. This plan backfires when his own father has an enchantress turn him into a frog! Ariane his servant has the chance to break the spell but will it be enough to save them both? Find out in this fairytale book!

Mehso-so

Prince Nolan decides that the best way to determine whether his betrothed is the spoilt princess her letters portray, is to get himself turned into a frog for 30 days (or until she kisses him) to see how she treats him.

The story is okay. It follows the original with some padding. But the characters aren‘t fleshed out or likeable, and the dialogue is simple, moving to gushy at the end. This one is only so-so for me.

A deeply dissatisfying read. Faced with an arranged marriage to someone he hates, Prince Nolan has himself turned into a frog so he can find out if she‘s really that bad (spoiler alert: she‘s not). But this twist actually robs the story of its tension, because we‘re never worried what will become of Nolan (who loses sympathy points for spying on his betrothed). Add in the shallow characterization & stilted dialogue, & this was a big miss for me.

My favorite color is mid-dark blue, but here's a wider selection of blue toned books from my Kindle TBR shelves. Yep, I've read exactly 0 of these so far. 😝💙
