#Aprilbookshowers #LocalAuthor Craig Silvey lives in Fremantle, Western Australia, which is about 15 minutes drive from me. He wrote his first novel Rhubarb when he was 19! I loved it and felt it was so evocative of place.

His second novel Jasper Jones was hugely successful and is on the upper school syllabus. I have seen a play version of it and on the weekend finally saw the film adaptation, made and set here in Western Australia.

MrsMalaprop Oh really @ClairesReads? In Australia? The film was ok, but not brilliant. It was true to the novel, and I loved the setting & cinematography. However I thought some of the acting was a little wooden. Maybe a ⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2 star for me. 7y

@LauraBeth it isn't that pretty but it is my great grandmother's rhubarb cake. It's a spring tradition for my dad.

josie281 Cream 1 1/2c sugar, 1/2c crisco (or butter), 2 eggs, 1t vanilla, 1c buttermilk. In other bowl sift 2c flour, 1t soda, 1t salt. Add dry to wet and mix. Fold in 3c rhubarb chopped & 1/2c pecans. Spread in 9x13 and bake at 350 F for about 45 min. Frost with cream cheese frosting (I use basic recipe of 8 oz cream cheese, 1/2 c butter, 3-4c pwd sugar, & vanilla) @LauraBeth 😄 7y
