After watching Funny Girl as a kid with my mom, I developed a crush on Omar Sharif and begged to watch Dr. Zhivago and fell in love with it. I even had a music box that played "Somewhere, My Love." I was a weird kid. Haha. One of these days (years), I'll read the book too! #rockinmay #backintheussr

Cinfhen He's kind of dreamy 😍 8y

This is on my TBR pile. I got recently the Spanish translation after reading so many great reviews. It tells the story of many victims and survivors of the Chernobyl nuclear tragedy #BackintheUSSR #RockinMay

Cinfhen Scary times - so sad 8y

#rockinmay #backintheussr A little different here with a ballet-themed Japanese manga from the 1970's/80's. In volumes 3-6 (pictured here) the dancers go to Russia to perform, and show that Japanese ballet is up there with the best in the world. A lovely manga series with beautiful artwork! #manga #ballet

Cinfhen That artwork 😍😍😍 8y

Focusing on the Ukrainian experience during World War II, this novel tells an utterly heartbreaking but still inspiring story. The circumstances are tragic, horrific, and haunting, but the perseverance and resilience shine in the midst of the darkness. (I received a free copy of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.) #RockinMay #BackInTheUSSR

Cinfhen New to me book and author but sounds really good! Stacked! 8y

I read this in the '80s when I was young and impressionable and loved it. This paperback was an old and ugly hand-me-down even then and I can't quite figure out what nostalgic part of me has kept it all these years. 🤔 Has anyone else read it?
#RockinMay

Texreader Yes but I loved all her books back in the day. I was an "objectivist" for so long. Took me a long time to learn the world really wasn't just black and white. But what an amazing writer. I still respect the heck out of this woman. 8y
LeahBergen @Texreader It's the only thing I've read by her. 8y
Reagan Loved this book when I read it, it was years ago though. 8y

Hobbinol Too bad she's such a fascist. I'd boil that one down to pulp fiction. 8y
merelybookish I'm impressed you avoided The Fountainhead! 8y
LeahBergen @Reagan-reads I hardly remember it (and suspect that much of it went over my head!). 8y
LeahBergen @merelybookish I guess I wasn't all THAT impressionable. 😉 8y
LeahBergen @Hobbinol I'll dismember it and make you something crafty out of it. 😂 8y
merelybookish @LeahBergen Good for you! I read it on th advice of Sassy magazine (along with Kafkas Metamorphosis and Austen's Emma.) I was very impressionable! 😉 8y
LeahBergen @merelybookish That insidious Sassy magazine! 😂 8y
Cinfhen Have not read it but I did read Sassy Magazine 😬😉😂 8y
Sweettartlaura I haven't read this one, but I have read a couple. And I agree with @Texreader - she's compelling. So is JK Rowling ... And I haven't joined a Quidditch league😜. I never understand why reading her means taking on her entire mindset to so many people. So with Rand, I take the good, let it sink in, & then read something else 📚 8y
LeahBergen @Sweettartlaura So true - and I LOVE the Quidditch analogy. 😂😂 8y
JazzFeathers That's definitely a late 1970s cover 😅 8y
Texreader @Sweettartlaura I think it's like @LeahBergen said, I read her at an impressionable age. But her books started a love of philosophy, logic and economics I still have today. Her books had depth in so many areas that I've never seen since from another author. 8y
tricours I like Rand! I've read this one translated into Russian 🤓 8y
Suet624 I'm with @hobbinol. A horrible woman. And Paul Ryan's best friend. 8y
DivineDiana @merelybookish Sassy! ❤️️ 8y

Gotta give a shout out to the hubby for recommending this one. Korean war was relatively unknown to me. Learned about President Truman's and General MacArthur's relationship. And while not set in the USSR it does describe the Soviet Communist influence at that time. So I'm using it for #backintheussr
