Happy Halloween from Angelina Ballerina and Felix “the Cat!” 🐭🩰🐈⬛🐶

After 🩰 exam rehearsal on Sun I did over Vinnies. Grand total🟰 $23. The 📕 includes a gorgeous pop up. Afterwards I went to the Veteran‘s markets but every1 was packing up so I didn‘t come away with anything. I usually come away with lots. I walked home picking up a click & collect on the way, I visited the Metro for groceries, had my Zoom 🩰 class then visited my aunt who was staying in the apartments next 🚪. My favourite cousin was there too.

This is the author‘s debut published in 1995. It‘s published as a novel but feels like it has to be a memoir. A section on the character‘s father, one on the mother, one on the experience of ballet dancers, and one on falling for a married Russian immigrant. As I was reading it I thought the writing was too simple, but by the end I realized how impactful the descriptions were and how close I felt to the characters. #10BeforetheEnd #offtheshelf

2.5/5
I liked the 1st part when she puts into context the sculpture, when she gives info about Degas which offers a better understanding of the work itself, and its harsh reception at the time.
I didn't like the digressions: pointless comparison of hardship, emotional judgements... These made it harder to read. I would have preferred more emotional distance from the writer, more structure too. In the
end, we don't know much more about the model

4.75⭐️ I really liked this book and was quite surprised that I did. I‘m no ballet expert but it seems like it‘s pretty accurate. I also liked the background of the height of the #coldwar rather than #wwii. I am really curious as to what next this author produces. #2025 #historucalfiction #russia #unitedstates #fiction #literaryfiction #family #rivarly

I heard about this on an episode on What Should I Read Next in March. Really enjoyed it. Review coming forth.
