If you‘ve ever sung in a choir, or enjoy listening to choral music, or actually any music, this book has so many insights. It is beautifully written, and while it‘s part memoir, it also talks about music history and the psychology of music. I can‘t think of the last time I flew through a nonfiction book this quickly. Definitely recommend. #jumpstart2023 #sharreadathon

Talk about six degrees of separation: the dedication of one of my current reads acknowledges Dilys Smith. She was the daughter of my college voice teacher, and an accomplished singer in her own right. I love the connection! 🎶

IndoorDame I love it when you have little personal connections like that to books! 1y

A musician friend is downsizing as she moves into a new apartment, and she gave me this today. Given how much happiness and joy I get from singing with others, I‘m excited to read this. #jumpstart2023

Would you believe the tagged book is required reading for 2 of my book clubs at the moment? I listened to it on audio this morn on my walk up the hill to the Little Free Library. Loving it so far. Then I enjoyed a sauna & spa before Stew took me to see Don‘t Worry Darling at Gold Class Cinema. I highly recommend the movie if you like blood & smashing the patriarchy. With so many cocktails on screen I was very glad we ordered our usual margaritas.

I really don‘t care for it. There‘s something about the combination of the author‘s matter-of-fact tone and that she thinks religious beliefs are absurd, despite singing in a church choir, that is off-putting for me. I don‘t care that she doesn‘t have religious beliefs, but I do care that she‘s publicly disparaging to others‘ sources of comfort. Just so we‘re clear, if she was religious and being dismissive of atheists I‘d have the same problem.

KrystalClarity P.S. I have a confession to make: I got this book as part of an early review giveaway from Librarything back in 2012(?) and then I didn‘t read it. I was a teen with good intentions who got swamped in homework. I‘m sorry for taking so long!! 3y

Just watched Baz Luhrmann's Romeo and Juliet with a live choir at Union Chapel in Islington. It was so good and the venue was stunning will definitely be looking out for more Backyard Cinema events.
