This is the second in series and as I gave the initial one a 4.25/5 stars I was looking forward to this next one. Unfortunately, I just didn't get the same excitement factor from this one. I think part of my dissatisfaction is not getting more from the female protagonist here. I feel that Sebastian is a well-fleshed out hero, but Gemma needs more "airtime" and more of a chance to contribute to the overall storyline. Also, as I was not surprised?
It's beyond cold outside and we've both been under the weather but we are back this week with our annual Flashman episode! We are discussing the fourth book in the series, “Flashman at the Charge.“ Perhaps the best of the series so far and a possible jumping off point for new readers to the series.

And another!! Featuring Florence Nightingale!🌹
I enjoyed this novel every bit as much as Mason‘s earlier “The Darwin Affair.” He writes fascinating historical mysteries. The only disappointment is how long we need to wait between books featuring Charles Field. Here, we are presented with a story that begins with a murderer stalking Florence Nightingale‘s nurses in the Crimea, and ends 12 years later with the same man stalking London politicians, and Field‘s family. Wonderful period details.
Thank you so so much @Soubhiville for such a fab birthday read. Can‘t wait to dive into this one. Thank you for thinking of me xxxxx
When you have an overflowing TBR the best thing to do is to select more books. Right?! A very long list of books were discussed and a surprising selection was made. As always books weren't the only things discussed. Side topics included; wasps, insect spray, heat stroke, camping, and audiobook narrators. Sounds fun right? Enjoy!

Another Enola Holmes winner! I believe the reason these are so delightful is bc of narrator Katharine Kellgren. I recognized her voice from the Incorrigible Children of Ashton Place series. She has great voices and comedic timing.

I picked this one up on a Lark from work the other day and I inhaled it today! A story surrounding Florence Nightengale and a serial killer set during Victorian time? Yes, please! Solid 🌟🌟🌟🌟 read! #bookspin @TheAromaofBooks

Romance is my comfort genre and the tagged book is a perennial favourite along with Sylvester by Georgette Heyer.
Historical fiction is another favourite, latest favourite being River Spirit by Leila Aboulela.
I like unique narratives by women, not that's a genre though
Fantasy -The lioness quartet,Lord of the rings,Broken earth,Harry Potter!
