Set at the Elizabethan court at Christmas, Rosamund falls for a handsome member of the Swedish delegation. We have the Frost Fair, skating parties, the volta, masquerades, hunting, Dudley dramatically sulking, palace intrigue and conspiracies.
I would have preferred somewhat more focus on intrigue, but the category length meant a tight focus on the smooching and our main couple. Enjoyable.

This one is definitely not something I would typically pick up. I picked it up because I really enjoyed one of Maguire‘s other works and this one did not disappoint.

This will complete my double spin for February.

According to Sarah MacLean, this is the first own voices Asian historical and it was pubbed in 2010! That seems unreal, but then most (if not all) of my own HR reading is set in England so...ugh, talk about a reading gap I need to correct!

Anyway, the book is great! The couple is phenomenal. I often struggle with contemporary romance bc the stakes aren't high enough - this book is why! The stakes are literally dynastic! So much angst! Love it!

annahenke This is hilarious that my post is next to yours and they are both #fatedmates related!! Love it! 2y

I don‘t read a lot of romance and most of what I have is very old but here‘s some of the ones on my shelves that interest me the most.

This was a refreshing change of pace. Set during China‘s Tang Dynasty in 758 CE, this was the most unique historical romance I‘ve ever read. A strong warrior princess heroine made this an enjoyable read. I learned a bit about China‘s history from this book, which added to the enjoyment. Good storyline, interesting characters, fascinating history, and plenty of cultural information make this highly recommended.

I hated this couple - He puts his foot in his mouth, she insists on taking offense. She makes a decision (even if he agrees!), he must bend her to his will. It is exhausting and miserable and he makes some threats that just put my hackles up. I don't buy the love. All they agree on is sex; they cannot seem to talk to one another.

There is also a strange sort of side plot that doesn't get enough screen time to really register.

Did a reread of this for book group, and wow, it's amazing how diiferent this book feels a decade later. Ai Li is such an awesome heroine.
