I am cutting down on buying new books, but it's my birthday and there is the first ever Baldwin biography out. I cannot believe we have gone this long without a major biography on his amazing life.
It is 700pgs and I plan on reading it next year when I tackle his less famous works.
Today was a good day. I went to my local indie to pick up hard copies of the last two audiobooks I listened to, got recommendations from one of my favorite booksellers, and got to hear an award winning illustrator talk about his craft and read the tagged picture book that he illustrated. Went to get 2 books, came home with 7. #bookmath
pickJames Baldwin writes about his early childhood, involvement and work during the civil rights movement, his time in Paris, relationships with MLK, Malcom X, Huey Newton (and several others), the inequality in the social justice system, AND SO MUCH MORE. Definitely a must read for anyone and everyone. He wrote this over 50 years ago, and not much has changed.
To mark my upcoming 40th Birthday my Partner and I are in New Orleans. And I could not come here and not go to Baldwin and Co. Coffee and Bookstore to browse books and grab a coffee 🖤. NOLA feels like home. No other way to explain it. #nola #jamesbaldwin #homeofmyheart
