The Turquoise Ledge: A Memoir | Leslie Marmon Silko

This is so so important. There are several countries in the world, like included, that have a variety of different languages, but governments that insist on the primacy of just one language, which is ridiculous. A diversity of language is to be celebrated.

This is my last day in Tombstone, Arizona so I decided to spend some time in the pool and then reading poolside at the guest ranch where my BFF and I have been staying for the weekend. It's been a great trip and I've had time before and after all the touristy things to get halfway through this book.

JamieArc Perfect author to read during your time in AZ! 10mo

1.Not for now, but hoping to visit Arizona in October! Very excited!
2. For everyone to turn feminist, for all voters to reject populist fascists, for the 2000 year old caste system to be wiped out from the brain of every indian.

TheSpineView Thanks for playing! 11mo

This was amazing. Based on ancient stories. It's atmospheric and packs a lot in a short narrative. I don't want to give too much away, but this is a fantastic indigenous author. I'll be looking for more of her work!

Liz_M Ceremony is one of my favorite books. 13mo

Pickpick

A meandering walk in the desert that is a beautiful reflection of the life lived in it. As I also live in the Sonoran Desert, I felt a deep connection to this book and am glad that I own it and can reread it anytime I forget why I live here in the heat. For a full review, please visit my blog:

The Turquoise Ledge: A Memoir | Leslie Marmon Silko

Sometimes early in the morning when I walk the trail the air is cool & faintly scented with rain. Just before the sun rises over the mountains, incandescence floods over the bright greens of the mesquite leaves & jade greens of the tall saguaros. A breeze stirs & there is a silence as it might have been five hundred or a thousand years ago. No sound anywhere in the distance from a train, jet, car or even a dog. Here the desert is as it always was.

A weird personal connection to the author for me. My German Great-grandma was born in Los Lunas, NM. I actually gasped when I read this.

July has not been a good reading month. My second vaccine hit me HARD and I was out for several days. Then my brother went on vacation so I spent a week checking in on my mom every day. Just didn't have much reading time. Now I have 8 days to finish 4 books in order to stay on track. I can do it! I'm starting this memoir about living in the Sonoran desert tonight. I've had it for a few years, so I figured it was time to pick it up.

My indigenous voices shelf is really growing. It‘s about to need a second 11 inch cube. I‘m a bit late to the There There game, but I think I‘m going to enjoy it all the same.

CBee I just bought There There too! You‘re not the only one who‘s late to that game 😊 3y
GingerAntics @CBee oh good! I love when I‘m not the only late comer. (edited) 3y

GingerAntics @CBee my people are really over here on Litsy. I‘m such a slacker on other platforms since finding Litsy. 3y
CBee @GingerAntics other platforms? What such nonsense is that? 😂😂😂 Litsy is my jam. Pretty much the only one now and I am SO much happier. 3y
GingerAntics @CBee right? We can disagree on things and still be civil (for the most part) and still be friends. I have IG because apparently potential employers check social media and not having any looks bad. 🤷🏼‍♀️ 3y
CBee @GingerAntics absolutely!! I have IG and Facebook but never check either 🤷‍♀️ 3y
