First published in 1915 The Songs of a Sentimental Bloke by C J Dennis was hugely successful & remained popular for decades. It has been sadly neglected of late. These are the first few stanzas of The Play in which Bill takes his beloved Doreen to see Romeo and Juliet. The poem continues to summarise the play and Bill's reactions to it. It's a delight. My parents are currently bird-sitting my brother's lovebird. And since my family has been living with my parents, we've also been hanging out with this bird.
