Aeroplane companion today.
I‘ve purchased this stack of Jacqueline Winspear books at 2 different used books stores over the past 2 days for my daughter. She is excited and I‘m thankful for media mail. 📦

Reread this for book club. Winspear writes about the effects of war on the protagonist, Maisie Dobbs, with an eye to the tragic. She can write a lovely sentence laced with deep sentiment. The mystery was interesting. There was a bit too much going on but overall, it was quite good.
I feel like I've been seeing posts on Maisie every time I'm on Litsy lately, and made the happy discovery that my library has at least the first 3 books. I can understand now why these books are so deeply loved and admired. It was really a light but very special read 💜💜💜
Maisie confronts political change in #14 in this series.
It‘s 1940.Britain & France are at war with Germany.Maisie is hired to investigate the disappearance of a young man who is working on a secret contract.During the investigative process,Maisie discovers links to the underworld,a beloved friend‘s son goes missing,& allied forces are stranded on the French Coast of Dunkirk. Each of these events affect Maisie‘s life. #serieslove2024
I see why friends have been telling me to read Maisie Dobbs. The first book is so good! It‘s a trope I‘ve seen before (plucky wartime nurse comes home to England after the war, solves mysteries), but I‘m OK with that. I‘m not so sure I‘ll be into the espionage themes in later books, but I enjoyed the first book so much, I‘m willing to try the rest of the series.
Started this tonight;happy to be in Maisie‘s world after so much excitement in my world!
Glued to TV-two nail biting Women‘s basketball games: Iowa with Caitlin Clark, beat LSU, 94-87 to make the Final Four, followed by UConn with Paige Bueckers, beat USC 80-73.Iowa & UConn play each other next.It will be beyond a miracle if UConn wins! #bleedblue #UConn This household is so excited. Both UConn‘s Women & Men‘s bb teams the Final Four! #serieslove2024
